I'm Melissa F., the breeder behind Walnut Ridge Kennels located in Bad Axe, MI. We work hard to produce healthy, well-rounded puppies that will make others as happy as our dogs have made us! We treasure each puppy in our program and give them all the attention and care that we possibly can. We work hard so our puppies can leave our home with confidence, ready to take on the world with their new family!
Q. & A. with Melissa
Why did you start breeding?
My parents raised and showed Alaskan Malamutes when I was young and they also had a dog boarding kennel, which was my job growing up. When I went out on my own, I started with German Shepherds (breeding/showing), and then decided that I wanted to get back into the Malamutes. I got interested in the French Bulldog from a client at my kennel, who was trying to find homes for his puppies.
What makes your program special?
I strive for a sound dog, not only in structure, but also temperament. I feel the key to a good puppy is socialization. My puppies are exposed to many things their first 8 weeks, such as sounds, stairs, different flooring, being around my adult dogs, and are usually running around my house, having fun and just being puppies! All of my breeding dogs are X-rayed and OFA certified Hips, Elbows, Patellas and I also do eye certifications and breed-specific health panels as well.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation

Spine (OFA, FCI)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
