Meet the breeder

I'm Mariz R., the breeder behind Waterloo Mountain Farm located in Cotopaxi, CO. Waterloo Mountain Farm is a small homestead in Cotopaxi, Colorado, where we raise Colorado Mountain Dogs in a working environment alongside livestock. Our program focuses on producing reliable guardians through thoughtful breeding focused on health and temperament, and intentional early raising.

Q. & A. with Mariz

  • Why did you start breeding?

I didn’t set out to become a breeder. As we began raising livestock, it quickly became clear that fencing alone was inadequate and we needed reliable livestock guardian dogs. That led me down the path of learning about the Colorado Mountain Dog, and I became interested in contributing to a program that prioritizes stable, people-friendly guardians that actually fit modern homesteads.
  • What makes your program special?

Our dogs are raised and evaluated in a real working environment which allows us to select for dogs that are not just theoretically sound, but actually suited to the kinds of properties most people have. As a small program, we produce limited litters and take a hands-on approach to raising puppies, focusing on early socialization, and setting both dogs and owners up for long-term success.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include tan and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Mariz

Mariz has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Mariz partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

“We match puppies based on temperament, not just appearance. By observing each puppy as they develop, we pair them with homes that best fit their personality, working drive, and environment to set both the dog and owner up for success.”
