I'm Lauri J., the breeder behind Wetbeard Giant Schnauzers located in Wynantskill, NY. My dogs are breed to provide solid temperaments and excellent conformation. My dogs are athletic and beautiful. They make great family members but are not a breed for the first time dog owner. They require training and daily exercise.
Q. & A. with Lauri
Why did you start breeding?
I purchased a wonderful female puppy as an agility prospect and she was absolutely beautiful. My local kennel club members encouraged me to show her and she finished in 8 calendar days with all majors. She then got her GCh within a year with limited showing. She has a beautiful temperament and is extremely biddable.
What makes your program special?
Temperament comes first but my dogs are the total package. I have no ambitions of becoming a large breeder and only am planning a couple of high-quality breedings.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Price
Puppy prices include a $500 refundable deposit and between $1,500 - $3,100 final payment, before taxes & fees.
“Prices vary as to if the puppy is deemed of quality to be show and breeding quality when evaluated at 8 weeks. Ear trimming adds $600. Pet quality puppies are $2000, show puppies are $2500. All puppies have docked tails and dewclaws removed unless specifically requested at time of waitlisting/deposit. This procedure is done at 3 days of age. I encourage owners to leave ears natural unless you are serious about conformation showing.”

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic Diversity Test, OFA/CHIC DNA Repository, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
