Meet the breeder

I'm Teresa M., the breeder behind Wine Country Goldens located in Petaluma, CA. With a focus on health & temperament I have taken the steps to have genetic testing (DNA) & other certifications by Vet Specialists to provide healthy, happy puppies with the best chances of longevity. It is very important to me to find loving homes for each puppy where they will flourish.

Q. & A. with Teresa

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was raised in a farm here in the Wine Country and from a young age my dogs became my closest companions. Eventually, when I was raising my own family we bought our first Golden Retriever and I fell in love with the breed. I wanted to share the joy of ownership w/ others, while setting the goal to always improve the breed by means of research in various forms (reading, mentors & digging).
  • What makes your program special?

My breeding program is Special in that I’ve been producing Goldens w/ diverse genetics & making matches based on health (by means of testing), temperament & low COI (Co-efficient of Inbreeding) rather than “Cream” or “Red”, which frankly, can cut the gene pool in half). At the end of the day we don’t care about the color of our Goldens (all are beautiful) we care about their health & temperament.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
