Winters Wind Poodles

Karen W.

Breeder of Poodles

Meet the breeder

I'm Karen W., the breeder behind Winters Wind Poodles located in Prophetstown, IL. Often we hear from people who do not own a Poodle that they are frou-frou dogs. Far from it! We believe that the Poodle has the capability to excel at any task. We see this in our Poodles. Our dogs and dogs from our lines have titles in: Conformation, Service & Therapy Work (certified), Weight Pulling, Dog Sledding, Obedience, Rally, Lure Coursing, Dock Jumping, Agility, Fly Disc, Nose Work, Barn Hunt, Field Trials, and one is working on a herding title! On top of all of that, Poodles make great family pets.

Q. & A. with Karen

  • Why did you start breeding?

Our story began with one red standard Poodle puppy named Sienna. Rob and I believe that when we first held her the seed for Winters Wind was planted. It is fascinating how the human heart can connect with the heart of a canine family. Parents can understand, as it is similar to the bond that happens when you first hold your newborn.
  • What makes your program special?

Not all Poodles are created equal. We strive to give each puppy born here an edge or a jump start. Beginning with Momma getting excellent nutrition, supplements, exercise and health checks. Puppies are born in a whelping room right off of our bedroom. We have invested in a state of art neonatal unit which includes an special incubator (Puppy Warmer), oxygen bubblier, uniquely designed whelping box and our vet makes house calls.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
