Meet the breeder

I'm Karina B., the breeder behind WinterStarz Alaskan Malamutes located in Cokato, MN. As veterinarians, Tim O'Brien and Karina Burger take responsible breeding very seriously; we are thorough in health testing and dog care. We ensure each pup gets the group and individual attention that it needs to thrive, and do all we can to prepare them for their future roles and families.

Q. & A. with Karina

  • Why did you start breeding?

There are very few breeders who both show in conformation and actively work their dogs on a team. We wanted to grow our team, but the breeders we wanted pups from had 2 year + wait lists. We had a male and female who had proven to be excellent workers and passed all their health checks, so we decided to breed our next team members.
  • What makes your program special?

We are selecting for dogs that excel in working on a team, as well as being show Champions, having great temperaments, and having excellent health and longevity. Seven of our dogs have earned the All Around Alaskan Malamute title from the AMCA, proving they are superstars in all these areas.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
