I'm Jennifer M., the breeder behind Wise Goldens located in Los Osos, CA. Wise Goldens is a small, family-run Golden Retriever program in Los Osos, CA. I have a background in biology and experience as an emergency veterinary technician, and our dogs live in our home as part of the family. We raise one intentionally planned litter a year, with pairings chosen for temperament, health clearances, and sound structure. Our waitlist opens well before each breeding, and most puppies are reserved before they are born. Puppies are born and raised in our home and handled multiple times a day. They get Early Neurological Stimulation, early potty training, and gentle exposure to everyday sounds (fireworks, engines, construction, vacuums), textures, people of all ages, and our cats and dogs, always in small doses where they feel safe. Each puppy has a name and color collar from day one. Families join a private GroupMe starting from mom's heat cycle, with frequent photos and videos through go-home day and beyond. Every puppy goes home with AKC registration, vaccines, a vet exam, a food sample, a blanket with mom's scent, and our puppy guidebook. Wise Goldens is an AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. breeder with a San Luis Obispo County hobby breeder permit and breeder liability insurance. We're committed to our dogs for life, and any dog we've bred is always welcome back.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I have loved animals my whole life, from rescue work and exotics at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to my years as an emergency vet tech. When Sunny and Sadie came home, I fell for the breed and knew I could do this well, and do it the right way: intentional, ethical, health-first breeding. That is how Wise Goldens began.

  • What makes your program special?

    We are small and intentional. Every litter is thoughtfully planned, never produced on a schedule. Puppies are born and raised in our home, not kennels, handled daily, and started on early neurological stimulation and potty training. Pairings are chosen for health clearances, temperament, and structure. We commit to our dogs for life, and any dog we breed is always welcome back.

Getting a puppy from Jennifer

Jennifer has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Jennifer partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“We take great care placing each puppy with the right family. Around 6 weeks we begin assessing temperament and personality, and selection happens in order of each buyer's placement on the reservation list. We do our best to honor gender and color preferences, though specific traits cannot be guaranteed. Our goal is always the right long-term match for both puppy and family, so we guide each family based on temperament, energy, and structure.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 refundable deposit that secures a spot in a litter. The remaining $3,000 - $3,700 is due at pickup, before taxes & fees.

“Price includes a vet exam and first vaccinations, AKC registration, early socialization and potty training, a food sample, a scented blanket from mom, a care folder, group updates, and puppy meetups. Deposit reserves your spot on the waitlist and is refundable minus a $50 cancellation fee until you select your puppy. Selection go in order of deposit receipt.”

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
