Meet the breeder

I'm Lanette & Allissa W., the breeder behind Poodles of the Northern Woods located in St. Johnsbury, VT. We find so much fulfillment in providing that same companionship to other homes! Our program is focused on producing puppies that are healthy, well-structured, and have outstanding temperaments. We have high expectations for our puppies and strive to place each one in an enriching and loving home!

Q. & A. with Lanette & Allissa

  • Why did you start breeding?

Lanette grew up on a dairy farm in New York and worked with her father on the farm with animals as a young girl through her teen years. She moved to Vermont in 1979 when she got married and has animals ever since. Allissa, one of Lanette's daughters started working with her when she moved back to Vermont in 2020 and her children love going to Grandma's house to help with the dogs and puppies.
  • What makes your program special?

We strive to breed the healthiest and well-rounded puppies that thrive in their homes. We are a family of breeder. Lanette (our mom) is the owner and I (Allissa) work for her. We live in Vermont. My brother Josh and his wife Emmy and their children live in North Carolina. He owns Maya and her puppies are raised in North Carolina and are transported to Vermont when they are ready to go home
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include apricot, black, cream, red, parti, and phantom. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Lanette & Allissa were wonderful and made this experience truly amazing! We felt so comfortable with the amount of care and consideration they pour into their beautiful pups. They were also very patient with all of our questions which we were grateful for! Our sweet puppy, Ace, is truly so smart, and we are very excited to have him in our family!

Lanette and Alisa were excellent to work with. It’s obvious that they take great care of their dogs. We picked up Molly and she’s adorable. Very social, intelligent and a little love bug. I was sent home with veterinarian paperwork, treats and toys. Molly is well adjusted with a great temperament and enjoys her crate. She sleeps well during the night. I would highly recommend these breeders to anyone looking for a great pup. Good dog was an easy site to work with and I couldn’t be happier.

Lannette and Alissa are the reasons why I have met my best friend, Charlotte. They are very responsive and flexible when I arranged a date for pickup. I am very glad I found them!

A+! Our little Teddy (Atlantic Giant) greeted us at the door. The puppies there were all very social and happy and healthy. He’s already well-integrated into our family and is as smart as a whip. He is already mostly potty trained and has learned to sit.

Lanette was wonderful to work with. She let me meet the poodle parents before puppies were born. I also got to meet puppies at 1 month of age. Lanette always answered my questions promptly and provided take home material about puppy care as well as toys for puppy! Lanette’s daughter was also very helpful. I’ve had Esme’ for one week now. Puppies are the best when you work at training them. I think Esme’ is very smart (of course) and is learning new things every day. I’m so delighted to welcome this new friend into my life. Thank you Lanette!
