Exercise, Breeding, Health and Longevity
- Maternal methyl supplements in mice affect epigenetic variation and DNA methylation of offspring. 2002. Cooney CA, AA Dave and GL Wolff. One of the early agouti mice studies showing that focusing on optimal prenatal supplementation with methyl donors, such as folate, vitamin B12, methionine, betaine, and choline, increases longevity and improves health over minimal prenatal dosing.
- Nutrition and fertility in ruminant livestock. 2005. Robinson JJ, CJ Ashworth, et al. Nutrition affects fertility in many ways, including the formation of fetal gonads and their post-natal development, the timing of puberty, and ovulation rates.
- Nutritional influences on breeding dynamics in elk. 2001. Cook RC, DL Murray, et al. This study suggests that low amounts of food available to elk cows affects pregnancy rates by preventing estrus and ovulation rather than by inducing early-embryo mortality.
Exercise and Fertility
- Exercise affects both ovarian follicular dynamics and hormone concentrations in mares. 2011. Kelleya DE, JR Gibbons, et al. This study also shows a detrimental effect of moderate exercise on mares prior to ovulation. More support for a focused, limited exercise program for our bitches prior to coming in season.
- Embryo recovery from exercised mares. 2009. Mortensena CJ, YH Choib, et al. This research indicates that exercise can negatively affect fertility. Exercising mares in a hot and humid environment are reduce ovarian follicle development ovulation. Environmental conditions matter when we are exercising our bitches prior to estrus.
