Preferred Breeder Benefits

When you qualify as a Preferred Breeder, you receive special recognition that helps you stand out to potential puppy buyers. Preferred Breeders receive:

  • An exclusive badge that will be displayed on your Good Breeder profile, so you can stand out to buyers on their puppy search, and build trust with them right away.

How to earn your Preferred Breeder badge

Everyone can earn a Preferred Breeder badge. Each month, we'll review your account and notify you automatically if you're eligible. Here's how you can qualify:

Respond to messages on Good Dog within 48 hours, on average

  • You need to maintain an average response time of 48 hours to messages and applications from Good Dog buyers.

Good Dog Tip: Use the Good Dog: For Breeders mobile app to quickly chat with buyers from the palm of your hand! Download for the mobile app iOS or Android.

Accept final puppy payments on Good Dog

To maintain your Preferred Breeder badge, you must:

  • Accept at least 1 final puppy payment using secure payments on Good Dog in the past 6 months, AND
  • Accept at least one payment for each new litter you list

This allows us to verify that you're having genuine experiences placing pups with Good Dog buyers.

Good Dog Tip: Be sure you’re ready to collect payments on Good Dog by setting up your payout method!

Preferred Breeders must also maintain compliance with Good Dog's policies, including our health testing requirements, Community Standards, and On-Platform Payment Policy.

Once you earn your Preferred Breeder badge, make sure you continue meeting the requirements listed above to keep your badge. But don’t worry – if you haven’t had a litter since earning your Preferred Breeder badge, you won’t lose your badge (even if it’s been more than six months since your last litter) and your badge will continue to appear on your profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to apply to earn a Preferred Breeder badge?

A: There’s no need to apply. Each month, we’ll review your account and notify you if you’re eligible. As soon as we notify you, you’ll see your badge automatically added to your profile.

Q: Do I need to be a Good Breeder for 6 months before I’m able to earn a Preferred Breeder badge?

A: No. As long as you meet all of the criteria when we review your account each month, you can earn a Preferred Breeder badge.

Q: How can I check to see what I need to do in order to qualify for the Preferred Breeder badge?

A: You can always reach out to the Good Dog Specialist Team by emailing breederteam@gooddog.com for help understanding what you need to do to qualify.

Q: How do I know if I’m no longer a Preferred Breeder?

A: Each month, we’ll review your account and notify you if you’re no longer meeting the requirements to keep your Preferred Breeder badge. If you no longer meet the criteria, don’t worry! You are always eligible to earn your Preferred Breeder badge again as soon as you meet the requirements.

Q: I don’t yet qualify for the Preferred Breeder badge. Will I still be able to successfully place dogs through Good Dog?

A:  If the Preferred Breeder program isn’t attainable for you right now, don’t worry—there are many paths to success on Good Dog. Although Preferred Breeder badges help breeders stand out to buyers on their puppy search, and build trust with them right away, they aren’t the only breeders that appear on the breed results page, leaving room for many other breeders to connect with Good Dog applicants.

Q: Does this mean that Good Dog’s On-Platform Payment Policy has changed?

A: No. Good Dog’s On-Platform Payment Policy is still in effect, and requires all deposit and dog payments between Good Breeders and Good Dog applicants be made securely on Good Dog. The requirement to accept at least one final puppy payment on Good Dog in the past 6 months in order to qualify as a Preferred Breeder is to account for breeders who breed infrequently and/or who have smaller litters, but in no way changes the requirements related to Good Dog’s On-Platform Payment Policy.

Q: Can I be recognized for the health testing I perform for my program?

A: Yes! You can receive Breeding Dog Badges to differentiate your program and the health testing performed on your breeding dogs! By helping breeders share their dogs’ health test files and links directly on their profile, we’re aiming to educate the public, improve canine health and well-being, and provide transparency to puppy buyers, together! Q: What happens if I don't meet the criteria right now?

A: We understand that you can’t always meet the badge requirements, which is why criteria is evaluated monthly - to ensure you have many opportunities to earn your Preferred Breeder badge as soon as you're able to! Whenever the time comes that you’re ready to start messaging with buyers and accepting payments on Good Dog, you’ll be able to qualify for the badge!

Q: What if I haven’t had a litter in the last six months?

A: If you've earned your Preferred Breeder badge and haven't had any litters in the past 6 months, you won't lose your badge. However, once you do list a new litter, you'll need to accept at least one payment for puppies from that litter to maintain your badge status.

Q: I listed a litter after earning my Preferred Breeder badge, but marked all puppies as reserved without accepting any final payments on Good Dog. Will I keep my badge?

A: No. Once you list a new litter, you must accept at least one final puppy payment through Good Dog to maintain your Preferred Breeder badge, regardless of how you mark the puppies' status.

Q: I’m unfamiliar with using payment on Good Dog, and want to learn how to get started.

A: You can always visit the “Using Payment on Good Dog” section of our video library, to find step by step instructions on how to start accepting secure payments on Good Dog.
