I'm Chris M., the breeder behind 1611 Sport Dogs located in Sugarcreek, OH. The outdoors is one of my favorite places to be and I’ve always enjoyed sharing it with a good dog. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work with and train a lot of different dogs which has been very beneficial in helping me become a better dog trainer, breeder, and a student of certain pedigrees that I feel will make great all-around companions.
Q. & A. with Chris
Why did you start breeding?
About 10 years ago I was looking for a family dog and a companion that I could share the outdoors with. I wanted a dog that had a desire to please and was easy to train. Also, a dog that was athletic enough and active enough that they could go with you all day outside, but also be able to relax with you inside. It led me to study and look at different pedigrees to find the right kind of dog.
What makes your program special?
We do not compromise on health and disposition. No matter how good a dog's pedigree is, if they don’t have the right disposition and the genetic health that meet our standards, we don’t breed them. All of our breeding dogs are raised and trained by us, so we know exactly the kind of dog we have and if we think they should be part of our program.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Roxy, mom
Labrador Retriever
About Roxy
Roxy is probably the nicest dog I’ve been around. She is out of our dog Sally and FTCH Mitforton Oscar of Leadburn. Her desire to please and focus on us is higher than any dog I’ve seen. She’s extremely easy to handle and has a strong work ethic. In the field she is a powerhouse with lots of drive and work ethic. When you couple that with her teamwork she’s an outstanding retriever. Around the house she is calm and quiet. We use Roxy in our youth program where she is handled by a lot of different types of kids. This can put a lot of stress on a dog because often they are getting mixed signals as to what to do and dealing with a lot of different personalities. Roxy never shuts down, and always wants to help out. She is truly one of the bests.

This was my first experience with a process like that. I had recently lost my boy Gus, after 13 beautiful years. From day one, the process was a wonderful experience - and it brought some peace to our home. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Griffin was loved from the first picture - and we thank Chris for completing our family.
