Meet the breeder

I'm Alex C., the breeder behind Acadia CanineTM located in Kingston, NY. At Acadia Canine, we are dedicated to producing exceptional Dutch Shepherds of the highest quality. Our breeding program goes far beyond the basics — every dog is put through a rigorous screening process, including PennHIP evaluations and comprehensive genetic testing for over 239 potential hereditary health conditions. As of today, all of our breeding dogs have been fully cleared of any genetic health anomalies, ensuring that our puppies are not only healthy but also carry the strongest foundation for future generations. Every one of our dogs is 100% FCI-registered Dutch Shepherd — we do not breed BRN dogs. This means that when you choose an Acadia Canine puppy, you are getting a pure, top-quality Dutch Shepherd with full FCI registration, the same caliber of dog that is highly sought after worldwide and rarely available in the United States. When you invest in an Acadia Canine Dutch Shepherd, you are investing in health, lineage, and unmatched quality.

Q. & A. with Alex

  • Why did you start breeding?

I began breeding after realizing how difficult it had become to find reputable breeders offering high-quality FCI working dogs in the United States. To make these exceptional dogs more accessible without the need to import from overseas, I committed to producing top-quality dogs here in the USA.
  • What makes your program special?

I put significant effort to breeding this exceptional breed with the highest level of responsibility. Every dog undergoes a rigorous screening process, including PennHIP evaluations and Embark testing for over 293 genetic health anomalies. All of our dogs are personally owned, 100% FCI-registered Dutch Shepherds never mixed with Malinois ensuring purity, health, and excellence in every generation
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black brindle and gold brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Great level

Acadia CanineTM reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dutch Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
