I'm Becca J., the breeder behind Alki Stars Shih Tzu located in Tacoma, WA. We love this breed and do everything we can to help it thrive. Our goal is to produce puppies that can compete in a variety of venues, as well as be faithful friends to their loving families. Purebred, well bred, titled and fully health tested parents carefully producing the next generation.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    Years ago, I had purchased a small AKC Shih Tzu and took her everywhere with me, especially when babysitting a newborn niece. That sweet dog would lay next to baby on the couch and watch everything happening in the room and made sure baby stayed safe, sleeping peacefully. From that moment I knew this breed would be in the lives of my own children, tho now I prefer a heavier, more kid-safe size 😂

  • What makes your program special?

    We have been diligent to study the AKC breed standard, find mentors, learn the importance of correct structure, movement and coat, and have pursued it with every step. We fully health test and title (AKC Champion or Grand Champion) in the show rings before it ever gets to the whelping box. We offer health guarantees on all puppies born in our home because we believe in our process.

Getting a puppy from Becca

Becca has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Becca partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 8 weeks old.

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and $3,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“All of my puppies out of Champion/Grand Champions are $3500 each regardless of sex, color or parentage. All pups come AKC preregistered and microchipped (registered thru AKC Reunite). Our retiring adults are all Champion or Grand Champions, will be sterilized prior to leaving, may or may not come with their registration paperwork and offered at a reduced cost.”

Contract & health guarantee

Becca may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • OFA/CHIC DNA Repository, DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
