Meet the breeder

I'm Debbie A., the breeder behind Allen Sunnyside AKC Labs located in Sandpoint, ID. Our dogs are bred for temperament, intelligence, and trainability. We own and board all our dogs here and they are members of our family. We strive to provide healthy puppies with no health issues. We would be thrilled to introduce you to your next beloved companion!

Q. & A. with Debbie

  • Why did you start breeding?

We had our first litter of puppies in 1988. In 2018, we decided to start our breeding operation with our Sadie, Smokey, and Cocoa. I searched for quite a while to find the perfect lines to use. I wanted a mix of hunting pedigrees and family dogs with a calm demeanor. We have had success with our pairings. Our additions in 2020 include Oakley and Bailey. In 2021 we added Ryder Boone, Shiloh Duchess and Buckley Gauge. In 2023 we kept Maizy Copper Sunset from Oakley and Ragnar’s January litter. She is our third generation and a gorgeous fox red. We also kept Shelby Scout Sunshine From our November 2023, Sadie and Ryder Boone litter. She is a spunky Beautiful black female, just like her mama.
  • What makes your program special?

We are a small operation that really spends a lot of time with our dogs and educating our new owners. Once a deposit has been made and a purchase agreement completed, we work hard to keep the new family updated with pictures and videos every few days, using the name of the puppy so it recognizes this as part of the early training we provide. We do ENS exercises with our newborn puppies and litterbox train from 3 weeks of age. Our beautiful pups are sure to make loving companions for your family for many years to come!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

I highly recommend Debbie and Allen Sunnyside AKC Labs if you are looking for an amazing labrador retriever puppy. We brought Walter home a couple weeks ago from Cocoa and Smokey's litter and he is an absolute gem of a dog. I was more than a little nervous about bringing an 8-week-old puppy home when we already have a mini Evil Knievel aka my 4 year old son to chase after, but boy did he put us at ease quickly. I think it only took a day or two for him to catch on to our routine, and he has been so easy to train. In the two weeks since he arrived, he already indicates at the door when he needs to potty, sleeps and naps in his crate without issue, and knows sit, down, stay, break, shake, spin and is excellent at recall and impulse control for a puppy. Honestly, we couldn't have hoped for more and we expected a lot less. Debbie was super sweet and communicative, and it was obvious when she and Walter were saying their goodbyes that she really bonds with each of them. She provided blankets and toys we rubbed on momma for the long care ride home and a thumb drive with a ton of info with regards to pedigree and genetic testing, and best of all baby pictures of Walter and both his parents. If there is ever an issue or question that arises it's reassuring knowing that someone with her experience is available to help problem solve. Ultimately, they are doing things right out there in Sunnyside and the proof is in the puppy. If we're ever ready for a second lab for sure we'll be making the trip back. Thank you Debbie!
