Meet the breeder

I'm Rebecca L., the breeder behind Alum Creek Labradors located in Marengo, OH. Alum Creek Labradors breeds only after extensive health testing and adheres to the breed standards set by our parent company the LRC. We have pride in our program and in the dogs we produce. Our puppies are very versatile and are suitable for many avenues.

Q. & A. with Rebecca

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was brought up and raised around German Shepherds my whole life. Breeding is a way to continue and ensure future dogs will posses the drive and workability that makes our breed so great! I breed to preserve our beloved breed.
  • What makes your program special?

I have trained and breed GSDs for over 25 years. I have shown in IGP, AKC obedience, AKC/UKC Hunt tests. I also compete in conformation giving me knowledge of the whole breed! I look at temperament, conformation, health clearances , as well as working titles of both the male and female when I’m pairing dogs for breeding. Striving to produce the dual purpose lab.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Dentition, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Temperament Test

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Full Embark Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
