Ashley M.

Breeder of Labrador Retrievers

Meet the breeder

I'm Ashley M., the breeder behind AM Labradors located in Wittmann, AZ. Our dogs are bred with health and temperament in mind. They are a part of my house and daily routine and are exposed to many different pets and people. All puppies have a veterinary exam and appropriate vet care before going home.

Q. & A. with Ashley

  • Why did you start breeding?

My passion for breeding came when I worked emergency medicine at a veterinary clinic and saw how many breeders did not health test their dogs and over bred them. I decided to start my own program in 2015
  • What makes your program special?

The puppies and dogs are raised in my house. All my dogs have a veterinarian clinic on call if needed.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

AM Labradors reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Labrador Retrievers.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), D Locus (Dilute) DNA test
