Meet the breeder

I'm Elizabeth G., the breeder behind American Dachshunds located in Azle, TX. I believe in preservation of the breed. You want the prettiest, best structure, best health for the next 12-15 years. When your puppy starts life as an American Dachshund, you get your wish! We practice selective breeding using veterinary inspection, DNA, OFA and allergy testing. See the difference!

Q. & A. with Elizabeth

  • Why did you start breeding?

Breeding begins with a love of the breed itself. Over 50 years ago, beginning in childhood, I was gifted a red smooth dachshund. Since then, I have always owned at least one. A dachshund advocate and aficionado there have been only 14 years of my life when I haven't owned a dachshund. Those were my first 14 years. Since then, I have not stopped educating myself and others on the breed.
  • What makes your program special?

Imports. We choose the world's best based on pedigree and historical health. Then, we genetically test them all to learn the most appropriate stud and dam. That way you get not only the prettiest face with a bred-to-standard body, but one that translates into little to no health costs in your puppy's future. If you are a breeder, you will know you're adding quality to your lines: inside and out
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include smooth and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, cream, red, blue and cream, black and tan, and black and cream. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

A truly exceptional breeder and person We first connected with Elizabeth after an extensive search for the right breeder, and from our very first conversation we knew she was something special. Elizabeth isn’t breeding simply to produce puppies — she does it because she genuinely loves and understands this breed. The way she spoke about her dogs was full of knowledge, passion, and care. Every answer she gave was detailed, thoughtful, and backed by real expertise. One of the first signs that we’d found the right person was that Elizabeth doesn’t always have puppies available. She breeds selectively and responsibly, focusing on the health and temperament of her dogs, not quantity. We waited for her next litter, and she kept us involved and informed every step of the way — from pregnancy updates to photos and milestones. It was clear she treats every puppy as part of her family. Elizabeth also cares deeply about finding the right homes. She interviews you just as carefully as you interview her, which we found both reassuring and admirable. After losing our beloved Dachshund, Diego, she was incredibly understanding and patient with us, letting us move at our own pace until we were ready — and making what could have been an emotional process truly joyful again. When it came time to collect our puppy, I flew to DFW airport and met Elizabeth just outside the terminal. She had already prepared everything — the travel bag we’d shipped was ready, our puppy was calm and comfortable, and she even included a few thoughtful extras. It was an effortless, happy handover. Elizabeth also goes above and beyond with health testing — performing full DNA panels on all her dogs — and she breeds with a dedication to the European standard: balanced, beautiful, and healthy dogs with wonderful temperaments. We feel so lucky to have found Elizabeth. She is everything you could hope for in a breeder: ethical, intelligent, compassionate, and devoted. Our experience with her was perfect from start to finish.

I have owned many long haired dachshunds over the years and dealt with many breeders and Elizabeth is many steps above all the rest. From the beginning she answered all of my questions . She asked a lot of questions about me which showed her concern about making the right choice for her puppies. She met us at the airport with a supply of food to help with our transitioning. She also educated us about the current recommendations on care. She continued to communicate with us about how well she is doing and adapting to her new environment. All of our questions have been answered. She continues to support us and answer any questions. It’s not just about a financial transaction but making sure the puppy is getting a good home.

Hi Elizabeth, Frank is doing well. He is quite the snuggler. He loves to fetch his toys and has learned the command “sit”. He sleeps through the entire night in bed with us . He’s getting his potty training down but has had a few mistakes. He’s also quite the guard dog . You’re not sneaking in with him in the house (lol)

Elizabeth exceeded all expectations I had for this experience! Jane is my first dog of my very own. Not only is she beautiful and already crate trained, Elizabeth described her temperament perfectly. I had several questions the first week, and Elizabeth was always responsive and helpful. Thank you Elizabeth for everything!!!!

Elizabeth was super responsive and flexible on letting us meet our little guy. We immediately fell in love with him and continue to enjoy every moment with him. You can tell Elizabeth loved on him and gave him the best home which transitioned over to our home. I can’t thank her enough for our sweet boy!
