Meet the breeder

I'm Martha H., the breeder behind Annie's Aussies located in Shepherdsville, KY. We are a small, dedicated breeder of Australian Shepherds located on a 350-acre farm just south of Louisville, Kentucky. Our home is shared with 14 beloved Aussies, along with my husband of 25 years and our 17-year-old son. As a retired teacher, I now devote my time fully to raising, training, and loving our dogs. Our Australian Shepherds are not just pets—they are family. Each puppy is raised in a hands-on, enriching environment where they receive daily interaction, early training, and extensive socialization. We focus on producing intelligent, well-balanced, and highly adaptable companions that thrive as family members. We take great pride in the quality of our dogs and the care we provide from birth onward. While you may be able to find a cheaper puppy, you won’t find one raised with more dedication, experience, or heart.

Q. & A. with Martha

  • Why did you start breeding?

Growing up we always had border collie's but I loved the look of the blue merle Australian Shepherd but knew nothing of their wonderful, amazing, devoted personalities. When my husband and I got our first Aussie we were amazed by their intelligence, loyalty, and devotion to their family. It was soon after that we decided we wanted a male aussie to breed to our blue merle female. I began researching breeding and breeders and looking for a perfect match for our girl, Annie, thinking we would have one litter. Well....I literally fell IN LOVE with whelping and raising puppies. I decided breeding is what I wanted to do when I retired from teaching. I spent all my free time reading books and articles, talking with other breeders, and learning everything I could about Australian Shepherds. When I was ready I added 2 older blue merle females and bred them with my handsome strong red tri male and havent turned back!
  • What makes your program special?

My program is special because of the the love, attention, and handling they receive from myself and my family. It’s also special because they are farm raised and exposed to farm animals and sounds that surround them.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red merle, blue merle, red, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

You can tell that Martha truly cares about her dogs and the pups. She allows you camera access so that you can watch your little one grow in addition to regular (almost daily!) pupdates with fun stories, pictures, and videos. She truly dedicates all of her time to these pups. She raises them along side her adult dogs, helping with socializing. She will also start the potty training process in addition to introducing them to water (baths and puppy pool!) and a wide variety of toys. Martha is very knowledgeable on whelping puppies from the womb until the day they leave with you. She has made this experience so amazing, even allowing us to visit with the pups multiple times. Martha is very friendly, and even keeps up with past pups via her Facebook page. She has made an amazing community with the owners her pups have gone to. I could keep talking about how awesome Martha and her family are but you should find out for yourself :-)

Martha was absolutely amazing during this whole process. She was very quick to respond, very open to having us come visit the pups several times, and even gave us access to watch the pups live camera. These puppies are so incredibly well taken care of I’ve never seen anything like it. we also got a bag upon pickup with all of the pups information organized in a personalized folder, a framed birth certificate, toy, blanket, food, and treats! This breeder and family is so attentive and knowledgeable about the Aussie breed, you couldn’t ask for better truly!

I couldn’t have been any happier with Martha’s services. From day one, she kept me updated on my pup’s status and provided access to security camera for viewing his progress. She maintained a clean, healthy, stimulating environment for all the pups in the liter. I would highly recommend her.

Got to meet Martha and my new fur baby and bring her home. All personalities are different but I received a dog comfortable around all people and animals, except squirrels, and well behaved and happy. I got her at 6 months old somehow and you can tell she'd had a good life on Martha's farm.
