Q. & A. with Lenny
Why did you start breeding?
HI my name is lenny. I got into breeding for the love of Dutch Shepherds. I am so attached to my dogs I wanted to make sure the lineage lived on. My dogs are intelligent fearless and loving. Traits that are passed on to there pups.
What makes your program special?
My breeding program is small and is done from home. My adult dogs are sourced from top breeders in KNPV programs in Holland. We don't have a huge social media presence as we are very selective about who gets our dogs. We do health testing and list BRN numbers for adult dogs in the breeding program. We also have a training facility in Massachusetts available to our clients where they can advance in any direction with their puppies. Including board and train or one on one training.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary)
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (Preliminary)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Spine (OFA, FCI)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

From the moment I reached out, it was clear I was dealing with someone truly special – a Marine Corps veteran who has poured his heart and passion into preserving and improving the Dutch Shepherd breed. He personally imports top-quality, healthy bloodlines directly from the Netherlands and raises every litter with an unmatched level of care, knowledge, and dedication. The early socialization and nurturing these puppies receive is on another level.
We’ve had our girl home for a couple of months now, and I can honestly say she is the most impressive dog I’ve ever owned – and that includes several high-drive Belgian Malinois. The combination of sky-high intelligence, rock-solid nerves, incredible calmness for her age, and an unbelievably sweet and affectionate temperament is something I didn’t know was possible in such a capable working breed. She’s confident yet gentle, driven yet biddable, and has the biggest personality – always wanting to be close and “love on” her people.
If you’re looking for a healthy, correctly built, mentally sound Dutch Shepherd with that perfect balance of work ethic and family companionship, you will not find a better breeder. This girl has exceeded every expectation and has officially claimed the top spot as the best dog I’ve ever had the privilege of owning.
Highly, highly recommend – thank you for everything!

It has been a real pleasure working with Lenny. His knowledge of Dutch Shepherds is extensive and he insured that I had all the information needed while considering bringing one home. I decided on a female and she is great. All vaccinations and tests were completed before I picked up my pup. Lenny checks in with me every couple of weeks to see how we're doing and always offers to help in any way that he can. I could not have expected a better experience and I highly recommend Apache Canine to anyone looking for a Dutch Shepherd.

I had a great experience getting my Dutch Shepherd puppy through this breeder on Good Dog. Communication was clear and timely throughout the entire process, and I always felt confident that my puppy was being raised with care. My pup arrived healthy, well-socialized, and full of personality—exactly what I hoped for.
It’s clear that the breeder is knowledgeable and truly passionate about the breed. My Dutch Shepherd has already shown incredible intelligence. I’m happy with my experience and would definitely recommend this breeder to anyone looking for a high-quality Dutch Shepherd puppy.

After my previous Dutch passed we were looking for another addition to the family. After we reached out to other breeders we found Apache K9. I reached out and they were quick to respond. I placed a deposit on our puppy soon after.
I did have to fly in from 2000 miles away… it wasn’t as bad as I thought (do your research). The breeder showed up at the airport on time, at the airport and gave me the run down. Stayed the night in a local hotel and headed home. The return flight was relatively easy from everyone admiring how amazing this puppy looked. I did give the disclaimer to who asked though out of respect to the breed, “he is bread with velociraptor and alligator” they understood.
The puppy is extremely food motivated and is becoming ball motivated. Showing a lot of potential for what the breed is known for. We are a family and he is fitting right in.

I found Lenny and ApacheK9 after doing extensive research on Dutch Shepherd breeders. Having experience with high-drive working dogs, primarily Belgian Malinois. I wanted a breeder who truly understood working dogs and approached breeding with intention and expertise. These types of dogs can be challenging even for experienced handlers, and the difficulty only increases if the breeding pairs aren’t selected responsibly. My previous breeder had retired, so the search was important to me.
I discovered Lenny through the Good Dog app, and he happened to have a litter nearly ready to go home. From our first conversation, it was immediately clear that he was knowledgeable, transparent, and committed to responsible breeding practices. He was upfront about the high-drive nature of his pups and made sure I understood the level of time, experience, and training required to raise them properly. That level of honesty is something I truly respect.
After speaking with Lenny and doing my research, I felt confident he was the right breeder to trust with my next working dog. The entire process was smooth, and Lenny stayed in regular communication from start to finish. He provided updates on the litter’s development and valuable insight into each pup’s emerging personality.
When I arrived to pick up my puppy, everything was organized and ready, food, medical records for my vet, and plenty of time set aside to help the pup get acquainted with me before the trip home. Once home, the pup settled in quickly. His confidence and clear-headedness were immediately noticeable, a real testament to the way Lenny raises his litters.
I’ve now had Odin home for a month, and he is thriving. His prey drive is high but very manageable, and his strong food drive gives us endless training opportunities. He is already beginning his foundation for Air Scent Search and Rescue work, and his initial responses have been extremely promising. Just as importantly, Odin is wonderful with both people and other dogs.
Lenny has remained communicative and supportive throughout, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience or the pup I brought home. I would not hesitate to recommend Lenny to anyone looking for a purpose-bred working dog. I’ve found my new breeder of choice and fully intend to return to ApacheK9 when it’s time to bring home a second SAR prospect.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
