I'm Kelsey K., the breeder behind Appalachian Dachshunds located in Tazewell, VA. We are a small in home breeding program focused on health, temperament, and structure. Our Dachshunds live inside as loved family dogs, never in kennels. Pups are handled from birth, exposed to everyday life, children, and other animals. We are committed to responsible breeding and lifelong support.
Q. & A. with Kelsey
Why did you start breeding?
I fell in love with Dachshunds a long time ago and after owning my first one. Their intelligence, loyalty, and huge personalities hooked me. I wanted to preserve those qualities while raising puppies with health, structure, and stable temperaments. After endless hours of research, mentorship, and working with my vet, I started my program in 2020 with the goal of doing it the right way.
What makes your program special?
My program is small by design. My Dachshunds live inside as family members and receive constant interaction and enrichment. Puppies are handled from birth and introduced to noise, textures, and early training to build confidence. I focus on producing healthy, well-adjusted Dachshunds with excellent temperaments. We pour our hearts into this program and I hope that it shows!
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Bernie Bear, mom
Dachshund
About Bernie Bear
Bernie Bear is a female Dachshund. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Kelsey decided to make her part of their program. Kelsey has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Mr. Pickles, dad
Dachshund
About Mr. Pickles
Mr. Pickles is one of the most loving animals I have ever owned. His desire to please, coupled with his ability to do so make him an excellent companion. He is hard wired to give all the loves and affection anyone could handle but also independent enough to love playing with the other dogs, children and cats around the house without needing to be on your lap 24/7. Don't get me wrong, this little booger could lay in bed with you all day if you let him! We love Mr. Pickles.
Reese, mom
Dachshund
About Reese
Reese, or as the children love to call her "Reese Cup", is a beautiful chocolate and tan dapple whose blood lines reside in Russia. Her sire is a Russian import and comes from champion bloodlines. She has quite a big personality on her and loves to be loved. She doesn't miss a second of it! She runs with the other dogs but where she would ultimately rather be is in your lap getting some pets in and maybe a few kisses. Reese has been such a delight to have around and we wouldn't trade her for the world. We absolutely love Reese and all of her quirks!

Kelsey was super organized and so nice every time we spoke. Any questions I had she was able to answer very quickly. It was so nice to see how much she cared for her puppies and is truly heartwarming she cared so much. She wanted to make sure they went to a great home and that they were going to be very well cared for. That’s all you can really ask for! If anyone has any curiosity to go with, 100% go with her!

It was a pleasure dealing with Kelsey of Appalachian Dachshunds. Kept us up to date the whole time. We met halfway to pick up the puppy which was great! Very well behaved puppy and beautiful part is, she goes on wee pad!!! Great job Kelsey. Highly recommend them.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
