I'm April S., the breeder behind April's Cocker Spaniels located in West Hartford, CT. I am a breeder for over 30 years and strive to breed happy, healthy puppies. My main goal in breeding a litter is to keep one for myself in order to continue my bloodline. I am an AKC licensed judge for cocker spaniels and am working on the sporting group I am a life member of American Spaniel Club and participate in my local all breed and specialty clubs to hold events. I am proud of the work Farmington Valley KC has done providing a dog to local police department, providing books to local schools and other community outreach. I health test my dogs and follow Spaniel Club recommendations.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    Have had cockers my entire life. Worked on the road with handlers. Have always strived to have happy healthy dogs.
  • What makes your program special?

    Beautiful dogs inside and out.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include black and tan, buff, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
