Meet the breeder

I'm Marie E., the breeder behind Aratone located in Granada Hills, CA. I am an AKC Breeder of Merit, and have produced many AKC Best in Specialty (BISS) winners, and Obedience Champions (OTCH). The dogs listed here are high quality, well-bred pet pups, which we only occasionally have available. Full health testing is done on parents.

Q. & A. with Marie

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was looking for a CH/OTCH sheltie who could excel in both conformation and obedience, that had a specific classic breed type (not generic type of sheltie). After spending years growing out multiple pups purchased from others, I decided the only way to get what I wanted was the produce it myself.
  • What makes your program special?

I only have a puppy or two available occasionally - This is because I only breed when I am looking for another showdog to raise; all breedings are done with that purpose in mind. I never breed just to produce pets to sell. With only occasional litters and fewer puppies, every puppy gets a lot of attention. Raising puppies correctly is very time consuming.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are sable and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Marie was extremely detailed and responsive throughout the whole process of determining if Phoenix (renamed from Cole) was a good fit for me and getting him home. She addressed all of my concerns and clearly set Phoenix up for success with his socialization and training. There were no surprises in his temperament and personality. It is clear that Marie truly cares for her puppies. I couldn't ask for a better breeder!

Marie and her husband had the ideal set up for their dogs and I tried as best I could to emulate what they had done. She was kind enough to give me food and treats “to go” so I would be able to give Koko some continuity. Naturally, our house has no other dogs and we have lots of stairs, so there is a learning curve, but Koko, who is 18 months old is adjusting well. She loves sitting on the couch and just looking out the windows, which gives her a Birds Eye view of the neighborhood. She’s a joy to have in our home and I feel so lucky to have found her on Good Dog!

Mikey is settling in after just a few days and he is a true delight. He has already figured out the play, nap, sleep, eat, “go out”, negotiating steps, go for a walk and cuddle routine. 👍
