Meet the breeder

I'm Dawn H., the breeder behind Avalon/Amaterasu-Omikami Sou located in De Witt, MI. I am a home-based breeder offering top-quality pups! My program is built upon a foundation of love, admiration, and respect for the Shiba Inu Breed & French Bulldog Breed. I strive to do my part to produce show-quality dogs and to better the breed. My dogs are proven champions in the ring and in the hearts of their forever families. I look forward to connecting with you!

Q. & A. with Dawn

  • Why did you start breeding?

I regularly participate in the show ring and started breeding not only to continue and improve upon my prized French Bulldogs & Shiba Inu line's but to raise the standard and preserve the breed for generations more to come. I am very fortunate to have been able to work under amazing breeder friends, mentors, and AKC judges that have entrusted their wealth of knowledge to me to use as a basis for my program.
  • What makes your program special?

I strive to do my part to produce show-quality dogs and to better the breed. My breeding program focuses on maintaining the unique characteristics of the French Bulldog & Shiba Inu while placing an emphasis on producing puppies of superior health, standard, structure, and temperament. I do everything I can to ensure my puppies have what they need to develop into healthy and happy dogs, and I am devoted to preserving, protecting, and improving this incredible breed.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our French Bulldog puppies are brindle. Shiba Inu puppies include red, black and tan, and sesame. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

We had a great experience with Caitlin and Dawn, and love our new puppy! He came very well-trained and is learning new things as well. He also came with all his paperwork, shot history, registration with a microchip, dog registration, and was pre-registered with the AKC. They sent along some food to get him started and provided lots of info and helpful advice. The kennel is very nice and clean as well, and I got to meet lots of other pups. Can't recommend them enough!

Caitlin and Dawn were absolutely wonderful to work with in bringing Shimo home! As a first-time dog owner, I had so many questions, and they were both incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. While Shimo does show the classic Shiba dramatics from time to time, his temperament and behavior are fantastic. Every time we visit the vet, they always comment on how incredibly social he is for a Shiba. Caitlin and Dawn also provided all the necessary genetic and health testing documentation, and even went the extra mile by snail mailing everything to me since I couldn’t make it to their location before pickup. It’s clear they put so much love, care, and attention into socializing and raising their puppies, ensuring their well-being. I couldn’t be happier with my experience!
