I'm Kelsey M., the breeder behind Barn Raised Aussies located in Lubbock, TX. Barn Raised Kennel breeds health-tested, working-line Australian Shepherds on our Texas sheep farm. Our dogs come from proven heritage bloodlines and are raised for instinct, structure, and steady temperament—making them reliable working partners and wonderful family companions.
Q. & A. with Kelsey
Why did you start breeding?
I grew up with Australian Shepherds and fell in love with their loyalty and instinct early on. Years later, working with them daily as a vet tech made me even more passionate about the breed. Breeding became my way of preserving and sharing the dogs that shaped my life.
What makes your program special?
What makes my program special is the combination of real working experience and veterinary knowledge. My Aussies aren’t just bred on a farm—they actively work sheep every day, allowing me to evaluate instinct, temperament, and structure in real situations. Pair that with nearly two decades as a vet tech, and I can make health, soundness, and purpose the priority in every pairing.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include red & white, black & white, black, red merle, blue merle, red, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Misko, mom
Australian Shepherd
About Misko
Misko is a powerhouse in every sense of the word. On stock, she’s bold and fast—an assertive heeler who isn’t afraid to face down even the biggest rams. Her intensity and confidence make her our go-to for stubborn sheep, and though we sometimes have to rein her in, her focus and quick thinking never fail to impress. Off the field, Misko’s nurturing side shines through. She’s a devoted mom whose protective instincts extend into daily life—especially when it comes to her favorite people and toys. She loves to gather her treasures into neat little piles and keeps a watchful eye over them, showing the same mix of heart and determination that defines her in everything she does.

Monkee, dad
Australian Shepherd
About Monkee
Monkee is the perfect blend of affection and potential. At home, he’s a total cuddlebug who believes he’s a lap dog, always wanting to be close—whether it’s a paw on your leg or his head in your lap. His social, easygoing nature makes him a favorite among guests, and he’s happiest wherever his people are. He loves toys and never turns down a good game of fetch. On the working side, Monkee shows a natural spark of instinct and focus from his strong bloodlines. Still early in training, he’s confident yet thoughtful, quick to learn, and approaches every task with curiosity. With his athletic build and adaptable temperament, Monkee is well on his way to becoming a capable, versatile partner both on and off the field.
