I'm Jake and Becky H., the breeder behind Battle Creek Dobermans located in Blanchester, OH. We are a small, family oriented operation. We currently have four Dobermans. Three females and one male. We are active in training for AKC Rally and AKC Scentwork as well as Schutzhund and real life protection scenarios.
Q. & A. with Jake and Becky
Why did you start breeding?
I have a passion for Dobermans and working toward the next level with each dog. Each dog has its own individual strengths that I love to work at increasing and applying. I want to help preserve the Doberman as a breed and to help other people find a Doberman bred with the original Doberman in mind.
What makes your program special?
Our dogs are part of our daily life and family. Puppies are socialized and desensitized to ensure the best possible start. Puppies have their ears cropped by the nationally known Dr. Midgarden. Puppies go home with microchips. I also offer an optional puppy starter pack with some of the tried and true basics for Dobermans.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and rust and red and rust. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

My intention for getting a Doberman was a guard dog. He has been the best decision I’ve ever made. He has a big personality, a love bug, and very protective. With high intelligence, even at an early age, I was able to use voice over buttons to communicate with him back and for with his needs. I am so grateful to have worked with Battle Creek and Becky to have this handsome gentleman. Not only was this process easy to navigate with the help of her knowledge and abilities. She was also able to find a trainer near me in the community; to help show me the ropes to properly raise and train a dog of such high caliber. Choosing a Doberman over any other breed was a decision, I will never regret. Especially choosing Battle Creek who have poured so much time and effort seriously into the breeding process. I drove over four hours to meet with the breeder and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. They were so welcoming, and took the time to educate and go over the process, going forward of taking care of his ears and training. For my first dog, I got so lucky to have such a wonderful people help guide me, on this new journey.
Once again thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to raise such a loyal and a forever best friend.

My puppy, Kaine is absolutely everything I wanted in a Doberman and more. He is, no exaggeration, my dream dog and the best Doberman I have ever owned. He has an amazing temperament and we participate in protection sports, unlike most Doberman who are not well bred he is extremely confident, willing, and EXCELLS at our dog sport. I was matched with kaine by Becky after she interviewed me for over an hour to ensure I would be a good home for him, and I told her my plans and goals for my new puppy and I wanted a very driven dog who could excel in sports. We still stay in contact on a very consistent basis and I share all of his training progress. She even went as far as to refer me to a previous client who lived near me when I was struggling with posting his ears and also sent me numerous videos to help us out. He fits perfectly in my home, I’m a dog trainer and I board and train from my home and also own two other German shepherd’s and he stays calm and collected throughout the occasional chaos and he is extremely loving, happy go lucky, goofy and EXTREMELY intelligent. He has been a breeze to crate train, potty train, basic commands and has general just very good manners. He was everything I hoped for and more and Becky is an expert about the breed and if you want a specific task/sport she will match you right on the dot with the perfect dog for you. The second I met kaine I was in love with him, she produces arguably the best Doberman in my opinion and stays true to breed integrity which was something I was looking for in a Doberman breeder because many are watered down or just spastic and nervous and that’s the opposite of Battle Creek’s Dobermans. I always get compliments on him and questions on who my breeder is because of his temperament, how handsome he is, and how well rounded he is. If you are questioning a breeder do not hesitate to go with Battle Creek Dobermans. Worth every penny and more!!!

Working with Jake and Becky has been extremely pleasant. The training that they had started with was very easy for me to step in and continue. These dogs are not inexpensive, however, I have had other Dobermans in my life and there is definitely a difference between a high-quality, Doberman and inexpensive pup. The quality of this particular dog is well worth the money.

When I was looking for my next Doberman puppy I came across Battle Creek and I am very thankful I did! My girl Katara is exactly what I was looking for. She has an amazing on and off switch. She’s very gentle with my kids but also has protective instincts. I will definitely be coming back to Battle creek when it’s time for a new pup.

I had a great experience finding my new pup with Battle Creek Dobermans! Jackie was very responsive and so helpful in answering any questions I had. Off our first phone call I could tell how much Battle Creek cared about their pups and how important it is that they are going to a good home. In addition, my pup had his first set of shots and other paperwork (chip info, AKC Registration etc) all set and ready for me! Highly recommend Battle Creek Dobermans if you’re looking for a loving, new addition to your family :)

We had a fantastic experience with Battlecreek Dobermans. Their facility and dogs are beautiful. What a wonderful addition Nova has been to our family. She’s smart, sweet, loves our other dog, and is the best snuggler. We’ve had the pleasure of having many Dobermans as part of our family. She has the best temperament by far. We couldn’t be happier! I would highly recommend Battlecreek Dobermans!!
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
