I'm Derek T., the breeder behind Bayview Pups located in Stafford, VA. Healthy puppies start with healthy parents! That is why I genetically test all of my dogs prior to breeding them. All dogs and puppies are vet examined, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. Records are kept in a binder for the new owners to provide to their vet ensuring a smooth transfer.

Why did you start breeding?
I started breeding 15 years ago and it is a very rewarding experience watching the adults grow and nurture their pups.What makes your program special?
Healthy puppies start with healthy parents! That is why I genetically test all of my adult dogs prior to breeding them. All dogs and puppies are vet examined, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. All records are kept in a binder for the new owners to provide to their vets to ensure a smooth transfer.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Shih Tzu puppies include chocolate, red, and black and white. Maltese puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

“The price includes up to date on vaccinations and deworming, vet exam, registration paperwork if applicable to the litter, microchip, and a 1 year health guarantee. Deposit is immediately refunded if the reserved puppy passes.”

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Working with Derek and Bayview Pups could not have been a more pleasant experience. The first and most striking difference between Derek and other breeders we initially contacted was how communicative he was. Of the 4-5 breeders we reached out to, Derek was one of the few that got back to us in a reasonable timeframe and didn’t make use feel uneasy. We put our deposit down for our Penny, formerly named Hope, and Derek kept us up to date on her progress up until the time she was ready to come home. We received pictures and videos routinely as her and her litter were growing up. The payment and insurance process through Good Dog itself was also a breeze and super simple. Derek’s adoption fee for his Shih Tzu. is more than fair and our Penny is super well mannered and despite being 9 weeks old, is great with her crate training. With the snow storm that hit the DMV area, Derek was super flexible with us to make sure we were able to bring Penny home safely but in a reasonable timeframe. We were grateful Derek was able to meet us halfway. One of the most impressive things about Derek and Bayview was the love and care they show for their pups after they go to their forever homes. They check in and make sure they’re eating, and sent us home with a sweater, a toy, dewormer, snacks and the food that she was eating. She also came to us with her first vet exam and shots taken care of and her microchip. Derek and Bayview Pups left us no doubt that they are not only responsible breeders, but probably one of the best on this platform. We are trying to keep ourselves from adopting another of their Shih Tzu’s!

Derek is an AMAZING human being and so incredible to work with!! Our puppy, Bastian, formerly Jay, is so remarkably intelligent, SWEET, sassy, and intuitive. He is the perfect blend of patience and playfulness, and SUCH a love bug!! I recently lost my dearest heart Shih Tzu unexpectedly to sudden medical condition, despite ICU and all efforts to save him. Derek and his family were SO incredibly sensitive and understanding. They helped me bring home the most wonderful pup to help heal our hearts and souls this holiday season. This family goes above and beyond, and they do SUCH an amazing job with their pups. The transition to our home and routine has been seamless thanks to how well adjusted and socialized our puppy is. Referring to this family as “breeder” only does them a tremendous injustice. They treat these puppies like their own family, and the baby that you bring home is so happy and well adjusted because of it. AND they sent the yummiest Christmas cookies! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We had a wonderful experience getting Bandit from Derek. He was so responsive to our messages. We had worries as this is our first puppy and he happily answered questions. He met us about an hour away from his location and was right on time and communicated his ETA. Bandit was well-cared for and was already pottying on the pad, he even went on a pad on the floorboard of the rental car when we pulled over. Derek provided us with the things we needed to get started with Bandit and gave us a clear and up to date medical history. We had our first vet appt yesterday and Bandit is doing great….no issues! I highly recommend working with Derek…it is clear he really cares about his pups and wants them all to be happy.
