I'm Reed G., the breeder behind BBR Australian Shepherds located in Sand Lake, MI. We pride ourselves on giving our dogs a great life with lots of play, a little freedom, and some discipline. All our dogs are AKC certified. Some come from Show lines and others from stock dog lines. Our focus is to make healthy, beautiful, fun, loving puppies.

Why did you start breeding?
After falling in love with my Aussie Dixie, I knew that Aussies were the dog that I wanted to keep around my house forever. Since Dixie is not suitable breeding dog because she is a white head Aussie, so she should not ethically be breed, I had to search for the right dogs to start my program with. It took me a while to get the right dogs to get started, but Bonnie and Clyde gave me my first liter in 2025.What makes your program special?
We focus on producing dogs with medium to low drive for Aussies. Our puppies need to 1st of all be healthy all around. They also need to be dogs that can fit into most families as long as they are meet with good, responsible dog owners. Many Aussie breeders set aside temperament of the dogs they are producing in order to get crazy colors. A lot of the puppies that Aussie breeders are producing come with a lot of behavioral issues that owners are not prepared for. We breed to make a more trainable Aussie, and give lifetime support to buyers in order to help them in their Aussie ownership journey.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Reed partners with them to find the best puppy match.
“We communicate with the buyer on the phone and set up a date to meet at our home, as long as they seem like a good enough person and not a threat to us or our dogs. Once they are here we ask them some questions about what they are looking for and go from there with the knowledge we have of each puppy available. Sometimes we talk the person out of wanting an Australian shepherd all together. They are a good dog, but they are not for everyone. ”

Clyde is a sweet boy who is eager to please. He comes from show lines and even has a few champions in his lines. His fluffy mane makes him perhaps our handsomest boy in my opinion.

Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA), Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
