I'm Ashley K., the breeder behind Bellissimo Standard Poodles located in Centralia, WA. We breed show quality pets that are beautiful and both conformationally and temperamentally sound. Our main goal in breeding our dogs is to better our breed. We use puppy culture to raise strong, confident puppies that go on to live wonderful lives. All of our breeding dogs are over the age of 2 with full health testing and are AKC champions.
Q. & A. with Ashley
Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding because I'm a pet groomer, and I see lots of dogs every day with genetic and health problems that could have been prevented had they been bred properly. I was interested in Poodles because I'm a groomer and love all the coat care. I worked for Handler, and in doing that I ended up with my very first show Poodle. I showed her until her Championship, and she is my current foundation female.
What makes your program special?
I have one to two litters a year. All of my puppies are raised in my home and are constantly around us. I almost always hold back one puppy per litter to show in AKC and continue on with my program. I breed my dogs for me to make a better dog, and in doing that I have a lot of great dogs that I just can't keep. That's when wonderful puppy homes come into play, and I get to share these amazing dogs with other families!
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Bellissimo Standard Poodles reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Standard Poodles.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
