I'm Lara B., the breeder behind Bernedoodle Love Puppies located in Wilkesboro, NC. I am a Bernedoodle breeder with a degree in Animal Science specializing in reproduction from the University of Florida. With 25+ years of experience, I raise health-tested, low-shedding, socialized puppies for families and service work, focusing on intelligence, temperament, & lifelong care.
Q. & A. with Lara
Why did you start breeding?
I began breeding after training a Bernese mix as a service dog for my daughter. I saw how calm, smart, and loving the mix was. Bernese Mountain Dogs have short lifespans, but crossing them with Poodles—known for intelligence, great hips, and fewer genetic issues—creates healthier, low-shedding companions ideal for service work and family life.
What makes your program special?
Each puppy is Embark genetically tested and raised in my home with crate, litter, and leash training. They’re started on housebreaking and socialized with love and intention. I blend science and heart in everything I do—raising Bernedoodles who are healthy, intelligent, and ready to thrive in family or service roles.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies include medium and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, tri-color, and merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Elvira’s Pregnancy Update 🐾
Elvira had a busy weekend! On Saturday she had her belly shaved—this helps keep her clean for delivery and makes it easier for the puppies to latch once they arrive. She’s settling into her final days of pregnancy, and here’s what to expect as we move into the home stretch:
⸻
Days 55–56
The puppies are now fully coated, beginning to develop pigmentation, and starting tooth calcification. As they continue to grow and take up more space, Elvira will spend most of her time resting and nesting while her body prepares for birth.
⸻
Days 57–59
Puppy movements will become more noticeable from the outside, and Elvira’s mammary glands will continue filling in preparation for nursing. By Day 58, the puppies’ lungs are fully developed and considered viable. Around Day 59, her belly will begin to drop as her uterus shifts into position for labor, signaling we are getting very close.
⸻
Days 60–65
This is the typical whelping window, with most females giving birth between Days 59 and 67. About 12–24 hours before labor begins, Elvira may stop eating and her temperature will drop, indicating that contractions and active labor are approaching. Each mother progresses at her own pace, so the timing can vary.
⸻
We are excited and hopeful for puppies arriving sometime next weekend. Thank you all for following along—your future little ones are almost here!

Elvira’s Upcoming Puppy Development
Here’s a look at what to expect over the next several days as Miss Elvira gets closer to her due date. She’s slowing down a bit and enjoying extra belly rubs, and soon the puppies will be entering their final stages of growth.
⸻
Days 48–49
Over these two days, Elvira will start looking noticeably larger as the puppies reach about 75% of their birth size. Because they’re taking up more space, her appetite may decrease. This is also when she’ll begin settling comfortably into her whelping box.
⸻
Days 50–51
The puppies’ organs will be well developed, and we may start seeing little movements as they run out of room. Elvira may slow her pace even more and begin naturally searching for a quiet, cozy place to deliver. She’ll benefit from smaller, more frequent meals during this stage.
⸻
Days 52–53
Some moms begin producing small amounts of milk during this time. Elvira will likely choose to rest more often as her body prepares for labor. These days are all about staying calm, comfortable, and conserving energy.
⸻
Days 54–55
Elvira will continue resting and nesting. During this final stretch, the puppies’ lungs finish developing—one of the last major milestones before birth.
⸻
We’re getting closer, and I’ll continue sharing updates as Elvira moves through these final stages. Thank you all for your patience and excitement—your future little ones are almost here!

🐾 Upcoming Litter Update – Elvira is on Day 40! 🐾
We’re getting closer! This weekend’s big project is setting up the whelping box so everything is ready for the new babies. Elvira is currently on Day 40 of her pregnancy, and over the next week the puppies will be undergoing some incredible development!
• Days 40–41: Puppies have all major organs formed and are about one-third of their final size. First hairs are starting to appear.
• Days 42–43: Rapid growth continues and bones in the spine and toes begin to harden.
• Day 44: Elvira’s belly is now mostly occupied by the puppies. We’ve switched to 3–5 small meals a day and are limiting jumping or rough play.
• Days 45–46: Puppies start developing their coats, and their skeletons can now be seen on X-ray to count them.
Elvira’s Care & Activity Update
We enjoyed a lovely 4-mile walk together on the Greenway today. This will also be her final dog park visit until after the puppies arrive. From here on out, she’ll get to play only in a private yard with her closest dog friends so we can keep her safe, stress-free, and happy.
We are so excited for what’s ahead and will continue to share updates throughout Elvira’s pregnancy. Thank you for following along on this journey with us!

Lara was quick to respond, helpful and very knowledgeable about this breed as well! She made the transition from her home to ours very helpful and easy with our new puppy! She kept us up to date daily until the day we picked him with texts, pictures/videos. She gave a welcome home bag with food and puppy essentials that made the process so easy! So grateful we found Lara and our bernedoodle puppy, Goose, is truly the favorite with everyone in our home! His sweet demeanor and gentle personality is absolute gold. He also loves the car, which is all thanks to Lara!!

During our search for a puppy, we came across Chandler with Bernedoodle Love Puppies. Laura was amazing start to finish in this process.
Once we reached out and answered all questions, we had a same day FaceTime call with Chandler. Due to our close proximity and willingness to travel, we were able to bring Chandler home the following day.
We love the genetic testing offered by Laura and how she cares for these puppies until they make it to their new homes. This was a fantastic experience and Chandler is the perfect fit for our family!
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
