I'm Susan F., the breeder behind Best Friend Borders located in Usk, WA. Our dogs are awesome family pets for active families with a bit of space to run, and have the breeding to be superior working dogs. I teach and my husband is retired from a 24 year career in the Army. Our dogs have tremendous herding ability, energy and intelligence typical of Border Collies.

Why did you start breeding?
Gary's retirement brought us the space and stability we needed to adopt our Border Collies. Rosebud joined us in May of 2016 and we added Scout to our family in 2017. We knew we wanted to train them on sheep and have a litter or two. (They have now had 2.) I've always been impressed by the intelligence and problem solving ability of Border Collies. We love our dogs and are proud of their puppies!What makes your program special?
Our dogs have energy and intelligence typical of Border Collies. They have shown tremendous herding ability and both have been bred to be working dogs. Scout has champion heritage and Rosebud was the fastest learner her trainer ever trained. They are also loving and obedient family dogs. Our puppies live in our house and are used to our many visitors. All our dogs are regular patients of our vet.What are the different breed coat types in your program?

About Rosebud
Rosebud's Registration is under my husband, Gary's name. She lives with us and knows everything we say! She is a beautiful Tri-color ABCA Border Collie. She was trained on sheep as a pup and her trainer told us that she learned what to do faster than any dog he had trained. She is extremely smart and agile. She is always game to work or play. Rosebud just had her second litter (Oct 2023). Her first litter was in 2020.

About Scout
Scout is a wonderful and smart Border Collie. He came to us from his breeder in November of 2017. He is a loving and attentive dog. He is trained on sheep and is both the pup and sire of Champions. We have not entered competitions with Scout.

Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

We got our little fluffy boy Ghost two weeks ago and 9 weeks old. Right away talking with Susan I felt reassured he was coming from a loving family that cares about their dogs and puppies We lost our Border Collie of 14 years the day Ghost was born. Everything was lining up and we are so thrilled on having one of Susan’s puppies in our family. We've had border collies in our lives for quite some time and know this high energy border collie breed well. Their energy and love is the best. Ghost is a quick learner, already knows his name, recall, sit, lay down, spin, crate and so eager to learn more. +4Mrs. Frisque was the sweetest and most responsive, accommodating woman I've ever had the pleasure of working with! I had spotted one of her puppies after mindlessly browsing after the loss of my own pup to cancer and after just a few hours we were chatting.
