I'm Robert S., the breeder behind Big Sioux Retrievers located in Beresford, SD. We work to produce Retrievers capable of any competition venue as well as life in the field and/or in the home. We want our puppies healthy and strive to get them well socialized and started on an excellent path of success before they go to their new families.
Q. & A. with Robert
Why did you start breeding?
I have grown up with dogs my entire life. My dad is a pro trainer and has bred Labrador Retrievers for as long as I have been alive. I felt that I could improve on what he has taught me and started my own program.
What makes your program special?
My knowledge of dogs goes way back and my love for them goes even further! I believe I have produced some excellent dogs already. I have a very good understanding of genetics and a vision of the dogs I want to produce.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Labrador Retriever puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Freddy is going very well with our family. He is probably the smartest dog I have had. He is being introduced to walks in the fields and ditches. Very birdy and like to watch Geese flying south for winter. The potting training is a challenge but coming along good. Playing a lot of fetch and 20 minto 30 min walks in the field behind our house. We live in the country so he has a lot of room to run. He goes every place with me and is starting to enjoy going with me in the truck. Big Sioux Retrievers are the place to get a good dog and I give them 100 Stars, Thank You Robert
