I'm Tyler H., the breeder behind Black House Sports Dogs located in Eden, NC. Our dogs are bred to be your best friend, hunting partner, and travel buddy! We promote function over form due to the fact that our American Labrador Retrievers are along the field, hunt, and working lines.

Why did you start breeding?
My family and I grew up with dogs and we’ve always had a dog as a house pet but my wife grew up alongside her dad who bred working dogs. A year into being together we decided we’d get a lab and she was the spark that lit every room.What makes your program special?
We raise our Labrador retrievers closely with our family. We train them to live alongside our children and merge into our families dynamic. We introduce them to our family and friends. We also take them out to meet others at parks or invite friends over who have friendly fully vaccinated pets.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Snipe is an AKC, super gentle good boy! He loves to be petted and played with. He’s also very trainable and highly intelligent (as he watches what we teach other dogs and puppies and does what he sees). Snipe is highly lovable and very social.

About Kumi
Kumi is an AKC mama. She loves to be outdoors. She loves to hunt and has a strong prey drive. She very gentle and friendly with other pets and people but she has huge burst of energy. Sometimes we call her a “ball of fire”. Shes like a “nanny dog” as she loves naps with our babies and constantly guard the house as they sleep.

Parent health testing
Good level
Black House Sports Dogs reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Labrador Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
D Locus (Dilute) DNA test
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
