I'm Austin M., the breeder behind Blackthorn Kennel located in Buckley, WA. Austin grew up in a home full of Dobermans. He was mentored under the Legendary Mary Rodgers of Marienburg Dobermans. His lines all trace back to her. He produced his first two litters in 2018 under her guidance, and since her passing, he has continued his work with her vision in mind.

Why did you start breeding?
My mother and father had a deep love and passion for the breed. I did my research and connected with some of the best of the best Breeders from all over the world. I regularly attend the IDC World Championships and IDC World Cup each year. I am constantly trying to expand my knowledge and grow as an individual within the breed.What makes your program special?
I have dogs from all around the world. We only receive dogs from the best of the best programs and pedigrees. We do our best to prove our dogs in multiple venues. Some of our litters were thought about many years before the puppies were ever born. We have vision and we are willing to take risks on outcrossing and linebreeding.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and rust and red and rust. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.
Getting a puppy from Austin

Austin partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

Price
“Puppies are sold with prepaid AKC limited registration. Multiple rounds of dewormer, minimum of their first set of shots, embark DNA tested, tails will be docked, dew claws removed BY REQUEST only. We require a deposit of $2,000, only $1,000 is fully refundable. We invest a lot of time into picking the right homes for each pup. If a family backs out, it really hurts every other family involved.”

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
