Q. & A. with Ashton
Why did you start breeding?
My first Australian Shepherd was in 2014. I had no idea I'd be hooked for life. She was the most amazing dog, I knew I had to breed her. I obtained breeding rights for her when she turned 3 and we started our journey from there! She had 4 litters and every single one was such a blessing. We started to create a really great reputation in Houston and hope to do the same in Boise!
What makes your program special?
My dogs of course! Maya is our original Dam, mother to Remi, and she is the pinnacle of why we started breeding in the first place. The genetic testing and OFA certifications are important and we do value them, but the dog is what makes them a great companion to any family. Temperament, intelligence, and breed conformation are the center of our program.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include red merle, blue merle, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Boise Aussie Paws reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Australian Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
DNA Disease Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
