Meet the breeder

I'm Dana B. W., the breeder behind Brambleberry Boykins located in Charlotte, MI. The Q1 2023 OFA Report to BSS, reported Twenty-nine (9.6%) of the 301 Boykins scored an ‘Excellent’ Hip rating. Three litter sisters from our first breeding (Boy x Nico 2021) are all represented in this top tier; providing for a 43% OFA ‘Excellent’ Hips rating in the litter. We feel blessed.

Q. & A. with Dana B.

  • Why did you start breeding?

At an early age- through 4-H and FFA, I learned how to read pedigrees, understand genotypes, phenotypes, the nature of line-breeding, and coefficients of inbreeding and their effect on offspring and overall health, while producing and showing high-quality Checker Giants (rabbits). Today, I apply those same lessons to my passion for producing, hunting over, and test-trialing Boykin Spaniels.
  • What makes your program special?

I do not own males as a part of my breeding program; instead, I apply due diligence to seek out the best males for my females. Pairings are important; they determine the attributes and health of the future offspring. While our Boykins are family members first and foremost, they have a penchant for fieldwork. Brambleberry Boykins is where traditions begin at home, and afield...
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include chocolate and liver. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
