I'm Katie K., the breeder behind Brookwood Collies, Smooth & Rough located in Danville, PA. Brookwood Collies is dedicated to raising high quality Collies who will be excellent family companions. We prioritize good temperaments, excellent health and health testing, and breed parent Collies who have great structure.

Why did you start breeding?
I was born into a family who had Collies as "the dog(s)". We've bred Collies on our farm since 1998. However, in 2015, we began to learn about genetic testing and began to research more about the Collies eyes. We were privileged to find Laura Van Embden in our search for better genetics. I've benefitted more than I can say by the privilege of being able to work along side her & learn from her.What makes your program special?
Our Collies are healthy, happy dogs who enjoy farm life. Our puppies are born into a loving home environment and raised with lots of socialization and TLC. Our parent dogs have great genetic health testing scores, good structure, and excellent temperaments.What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies include smooth and rough coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable merle and white, sable and white, blue merle white and tan, black white and tan, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Litter update on 28 Nov. •…Happy Thanksgiving! Zada’s puppies are one month old today! They are so sweet, soft, and cuddly! Their motor skills are improving every day. They always have good appetites and have learned to go potty in the litter box of wood shavings since they are too small to go outside!

Litter update on 12 Nov. •…Here’s an update on Tucker and Zada’s puppies. They are 2 1/2 weeks old now and have gotten restless and began to ask for food. This is a very typical milestone for our puppies! When they’re so tiny we give them Royal Canin canned puppy starter. It’s a soft, yummy puppy food formulated specifically for little puppies with tiny stomachs. The puppies did pretty good with their first meal as you can see here and then mom was glad to clean it up for them. The puppies opened their eyes at two weeks on the dot! They are trying out their little legs and trying to figure out what life is all about!

Litter update on 04 Nov. •…What exciting news! We did an early ultrasound for Ashley today and confirmed that she is pregnant to our tricolor male named Fiero! These puppies are due around December 6th! We look forward to announcing their arrival in a month😀! Ashley is four years old and this will be her first litter.

Program update on 18 Oct. •…We are ecstatic that we are having another litter with Tucker and Zada. The puppies are due sometime next weekend. This will be the last litter for both parents. Dad Tucker will have his ninth birthday in six weeks and will be able to celebrate it with his last litter of puppies lol! Tucker is a happy healthy boy and still enjoys being in charge of the farm. Zada is four years old and after she raises this litter, she will return to her retirement home in Northern Pennsylvania. We can’t wait to see what tricolor and Blue Merle rough puppies we get in this litter. We hope to keep one of the Blue Merle puppies from this litter to raise to keep Tucker’s lineage.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

Don't hesitate if you are thinking of purchasing a new family member from Katie at Brookwood Collies. We had never purchased a puppy that we hadn't met the breeder and puppy before buying. Also we had never had it flown across the country. But we saw Katie's listing on the AKC web page and then on Good Dog. After reading her story and having many online chats, we selected our puppy, a beautiful blue merle rough collie. Katie was marvelous during the whole process. She responded with every little question we had and sent pictures of him as a little puppy and videos of him playing with his litter mates. When he was ready to come home we were needlessly very concerned with him flying a whole day. The whole process was handled by Katie and her excellent transporter, Concetta Kilmer. All the paperwork, doctors visits, shots, crate, food, and tickets were all handled by those two. Concetta even kept in contact with us before, during and after the flight. We met our boy happy and relaxed at the airport. We are sure all the Brookwood puppies and dogs are as wonderful as ours as Katie takes great pride in her program and seems completely attached to each dog and puppy. You can tell just how much she cares by all the genetic testing that she does before breeding her dogs. She periodically inquires how he is doing and is always ready to answer any new question that comes up as he is growing. Our boy is smart, growing by leaps and bounds, learning daily, and simply beautiful. We are completely thrilled with our growing boy and so very happy that we made the decision to get him from Katie and her Brookwood Collies, Smooth and Rough.

+6Sometimes you learn a lot about yourself when making a big life decision (a puppy is certainly a big life decision). I learned I was not the easiest person to deal with - I asked a lot of questions etc..... Katie was awesome - she coddled me and helped me through the process. She answered all my silly questions and all my important questions. We ended up adopting two pups - a male and a female, both smooth tri-colors. We have had them a little over a month now and couldn't be happier. Both pups are smart and have great temperaments. Its been pure joy watching and interacting with them. There have been additional questions since the adoption and Katie has been there to help with encouragement and recommendations. A super experience so far :-)

My husband and I are first-time puppy buyers, so we had many questions for Katie, especially in the beginning. From the moment we met our dog, Oliver, we were so in love. He is the best companion - so friendly, well-socialized, and gentle - many thanks to Katie for all of her good work socializing and handling the pups from birth. We love his calm and playful demeanor and the levelheaded way he responds to commands and affection with self-control and cuddles. It's all the more easy and fun to take him places because he has had such a head start with puppy handling. When we first started looking for a dog, we spent a lot of time researching breeds to find the right match for our family. Once we settled on a Collie, I found Katie and reached out with a general message about temperament. I shared what we were hoping for, our family dynamic, and what we envisioned in a future companion. Katie immediately stood out. She told us about Wilbur (now Draco) and why he might be a great fit for us. She welcomed us to visit, and while we waited for that trip she continued to answer every single question quickly and thoroughly.
