I'm Krista K., the breeder behind By My Side Germans Shepherds & Dobermans located in Coplay, PA. My name is Krista and I am currently a certified trainer, AKC evaluator, and proud owner of beautiful Dobermans and LC Shepherds. When I was young, it was a dream to have a GSD and when I had the first chance at the age of 18, I took it. I got a female and named her Iris. She was my world. At the time, I had no idea what it meant to make a purchase like this and quickly learned not all purebreds are created equal. While Iris was so sweet and perfect for my life at the time, I knew little then, that she was far from what a GSD should really be. As Iris had aged years later, I then got a Doberman, named Lily. She was a lot to say the least! I had never worked with such a high energy dog and with raising her, I realized just how much time and training a dog could need. I loved it so much, that it lead me to become a trainer. On my journey to getting my certification, I continued to learn about dogs with poor predisposed temperaments and personalities, leaving owners with a lifetime of struggle to commit to a dog they didn’t have the means to fulfill. I also learned how much I love the Doberman breed and have acquired several since and started volunteering for a Doberman rescue to help find the best homes suitable for surrendered Dobermans! Within this time, is when I decided to partner with BMS to own the first GSD of the program (Everest), and Ariel (Doberman). From the moment I got them, they have surpassed any dogs I’ve trained or owned. While they differ due to their drives and purpose, they are both confident, driven, biddable, and have been the perfect dog for every scenario in my life. Each step of the way with them has only proved how much value they may contribute to their breeds. I believe adding a new companion should be fun and as predictable as owning a dog could be. That is the goal with our program!

  • Why did you start breeding?

    My goal was initially to become a dog trainer and enjoy helping owners and their dogs succeed. Along the way of raising my one Doberman, I had always been posting all the activities we would be doing. This is when her breeder had reached out to me asking if I would ever in interested in co-owning one of her pups and from there it was a journey that lead me to being partner in her program to learn everything possible when it comes to breeding. I realized it’s not only the training that matters, but the structure, temperament, drive, and health of a dog that all contribute to the biddability and mannerisms of a dog!

  • What makes your program special?

    I have a busy lifestyle working from home, dog training, and volunteering for rescue. These factors have always proved that my home only allows for dogs with confident, easy going, and biddable temperaments. The reality is that the average home needs a dog that can easily be a part of the family without the hassle of extensive behavioral modification, and/or veterinary assistance. I want to be a part of creating those very special companions that are naturally amazing at being a part of a family!

  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

    German Shepherd puppies include plush and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our Doberman Pinscher puppies include black and rust, fawn (isabella) and rust, and red and rust. German Shepherd puppies include bi-color, black and tan, and black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Krista

Krista has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Krista partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

“We have a carefully thought out process for matching puppies to approved homes. When raising puppies, we are constantly observing and tracking their behaviors from days to weeks old. Each puppy evolves differently which makes them unique! We take into account everything from their drive, resilience abilities, energy levels, to their individual quirks. When we have an established idea of their personalities here between 5-8 weeks, we will discuss with each owner on the best possible match. Temperament testing and evaluations do not predict exactly what a puppy will mature into, and gives us valuable information on the approach, raising, and training they could need to reach their full potential. We want both puppies and their owners to be the best possible match for each other. ”

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $1,700 - $3,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The base price depends on the breed and includes limited AKC registration, first rounds of vaccination, and lifetime support I am able to offer. A puppy comes with a copy of vaccination and deworming records, and a small portion of food to transition them from. Puppies are homed when ready at 8-10 weeks of age. Should you see the cost of the puppy higher than the base cost noted, it will be if the pup is over 8 weeks of age. The older they are - the more training, time, and cost is invested in ensuring each continue on the path of developing into a confident, well-rounded pup! The deposit along with the signed contract, allows us to reserve a spot for you in the litter of your choice. When a spot is reserved from 0 to 5 to 6 weeks of puppy age, we reserve spots in a litter by gender. At 5-6 weeks of age, we will match a specific puppy to you based on your gender preference and lifestyle.”

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    My experience working with Krista has been absolutely wonderful! I found her on GoodDog in January 2026, and communication with her was quick and thorough the entire time. She clearly loves Dobermans and is very knowledgeable of the breed and the breeding process. I appreciated the frequent updates and transparency throughout the entire process from submitting my application/vetting to picking up my puppy, Cairo.     Krista was very responsive and knowledgeable about the breed. She stayed in touch and sent me regular updates about my puppy. She would also send regular updates about the whole litter in the community group with tips and suggestions. She provided an amazing care package at pick-up and even made sure our puppy was bathed and nails trimmed! Good Dog made the process very easy from the initial connection with Krista to arranging pick-up and paying securely. Krista began crate and potty training early on before pick-up, which made the transition home easier. You can tell they really care about their dogs, and we couldn’t be happier with Moxie!!

    Krista was wonderful. She kept us up to date weekly and sometimes daily even including pictures. She was great about starting training early so the puppies adapted well at home. Lincoln is doing great!
