Meet the breeder

I'm Candace S., the breeder behind Candescent Shetland Sheepdogs located in Catawba, NC. I have had a passion for dogs my entire life - particuarly for Shelties! I participate reguarly in Conformation dog shows, and have dabbled in agility/rally in the past. I have raised several champions, and many Candescent puppies have gone on to earn titles in various performance sports. I love Shelties for their loyal, affectionate dispositions, as well as their keen intelligence, trainability, and desire to please. I am a member and officer of the Greater Charlotte Shetland Sheepdog Club and I am an AKC Breeder of Merit.

Q. & A. with Candace

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was raised across the street from a Sheltie and Corgi breeder. After getting married and buying our first home, I wanted to get serious about finding a great dog to show. In 2011, I purchased a dog that would become my first Champion from Tammy Alden and Pauline Brolin of Coastal Shelties. Later, I purchased 2 beautiful bitch puppies (One from Tammy & Polly, the other from Barbara Thompson - Barwood). These 2 girls became the foundation for where I am today. I am so thankful to all the talented Sheltie breeders who helped me get my start in this wonderful breed.
  • What makes your program special?

We strive to breed healthy dogs, who have passed their genetic health testing to lessen the chance of puppies with genetic disorders known in Shelties. We breed for stable, sweet, and biddable temperaments as well as beautiful faces and correct conformation.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include white and sable, black and white, blue merle and white, black white and tan, and sable and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
