Meet the breeder

I'm Jennifer A., the breeder behind Cavern Kennels located in Crossville, TN. We are experienced, reputable Scottish Terrier breeders. We take great pride in our dogs, our puppies, and our program. We are committed to staying connected to our puppy families throughout their lifetimes to ensure they never feel alone and can raise their new, furry companion with confidence and joy.

Q. & A. with Jennifer

  • Why did you start breeding?

I grew up with small dogs, Dachshunds and Cocker Spaniels mainly. My Uncle bred Bird Dogs and my Dad bred Beagles and then, years later, Daddy got into Morgan Horses so I guess breeding is in my blood in a way. I've always loved puppies and dogs and thought (back in 1999) that "having puppies" would be a hobby I would enjoy so I bred my pets to see. Then, as I quickly studied more and more about breeding, I realized that I really wanted to breed to make the breed BETTER! My "little hobby" that started out years ago, grew to a serious mindset quickly as I understood that I could make a difference in the health, conformation and temperament of the dachshund. Today, SCOTTIES have become a full time job for me as I strive to make The Scottish Terrier thrive with Conformation, Good Health and Temperament. I have all colors so that I can give people the dream Scottie of their choice!
  • What makes your program special?

I have a USDA License and My Kennel Name, CAVERN KENNELS is an LLC... But...Making people happy is the best part of what I do! I strive to do everything I can to give folks a fur baby that is well adjusted and healthy and ready to become a member of their family for many years to come. Seeing my customer's faces light up when I hand them their puppy for the first time is the most Joyful time and that's when I know that all the hard work has paid off.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include brindle, wheaten, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

The experience with Cavern Kennels and Jennifer could not have been any better. The video and pictures were amazing and fun to watch. I knew the personality of Willow before we got her. My dad bought Willow for me after I lost my sweet Scottie Scarlet after 13 years, and Willow has energized me and made me laugh. The mother/daughter team who drove from TN to MS to bring her to us seemed to be true dog lovers. The entire process was seamless and efficient. My dad and I are grateful to have Willow and to Cavern Kennels and Jennifer for making this possible.

Jennifer was extremely responsive. She was quick to answer any and all questions and helped connect us with a transport person. If ever we’re in the market for another pup I would definitely reach out.

Our new puppy from Cavern Kennels is a joyful addition to our Scottie family. Jennifer was so easy to communicate with and helpful through the process of picking up our new baby via air travel with all the documentation necessary to board the plane. Our fluffy wheaten baby with her erect pink ears was mistaken for a bunny by the airline attendant.lol. This little girl is happy, healthy and sweet natured.
