Meet the breeder

I'm Julie C., the breeder behind Caywood Aussies located in Columbia, KY. See us at caywoodaussies on social media or web.

Q. & A. with Julie

  • Why did you start breeding?

We searched for two years for our first pair and another two years for Maggie. We wanted to share the dog to those wanting a good herding or active dog. Aussies are not for every home.
  • What makes your program special?

We only breed one pair at a time. Our dogs are our family first, then breed. And we enjoy developing good relationships with puppy people. Getting a dog isn't just buying a four-legged creature, it's about the breeder connection too.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, red merle, blue merle, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Good level

Caywood Aussies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Australian Shepherds.

  • DNA Coat/Trait Panel, DNA Disease Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
