I'm Lorie L., the breeder behind Cedar Lake Labradors located in Denville, NJ. We are a small hobby breeder in Morris County NJ. Our puppies are carefully bred insuring both parents have been thoroughly health checked. We choose males, with strong Champion Bloodlines, temperament, and are DNA compatible offering most healthy pups possible, while protecting breed integrity.
Q. & A. with Lorie
Why did you start breeding?
Years ago we volunteered as puppy raisers for The Seeing Eye. We immediately fell in love with labs! Breeding was always something I was interested in but needed to do a great deal of research on best practices, health screenings and choosing the right males before embarking on my dream. Now several years in, with the help of great mentors we offer beautiful, quality well bred pups.
What makes your program special?
We only breed one litter per year. We take very seriously the importance of offering healthy well bred labs and do everything we can to insure we are breeding to meet breed standards and producing pups that are healthy, well loved and socialized. Both parents have champion bloodlines and have been health checked in accordance with the AKC guidelines for labs. AKC Bred with Heart Breeder.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are chocolate. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Cedar Lake Labradors reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Labrador Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), D Locus (Dilute) DNA test
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
