I'm Nick and Virginia P., the breeder behind Cedar Ridge Chessies located in Dallas, TX. We're Nick and Virginia & we love Chessies! We breed CBR in DFW, Texas. Health-certified hips, elbows, & eyes. DNA health testing. Wonderful family companions & fantastic waterfowl hunters. We’re excited to help fill hearts and homes with this noble, adventurous, intelligent, & cuddly breed.

Why did you start breeding?
When we got our first Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Ziba, we fell in love with the breed and wanted to be part of connecting others with this intelligent, adventurous, and cuddly breed. We continue to be grateful for the reputable Chesapeake breeders who share wisdom and guidance with us through their mentorship.What makes your program special?
It's our goal to socialize and expose your future puppy to different environments, people, sounds and foods by the time you take your puppy home. We engage each puppy in early neurological stimulation for versatility. We also work to house train and crate train. We believe that a puppy that is comfortable in a variety of situations will be a healthy, confident companion for you.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include dark brown, light brown, and brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
Getting a puppy from Nick and Virginia
Nick and Virginia has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, Nick and Virginia partners with them to find the best puppy match.
“We start looking for puppy parents early on, with the earliest going home date at 8 weeks. We believe that puppy parents should be involved in choosing the puppy they want. We are happy to describe puppy temperaments to potential puppy parents for them to assess whether they are a good match or not.”
Price
“The price includes their first round of vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, first dose of heartworm/flea/tick medication, litter registration, ACK paperwork, initial health evaluation, and care. The deposit places you in line for the pick of the litter and is your commitment to provide a home for a puppy. We're asking the same amount for all puppies, regardless of color, gender or size.”

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), DNA Disease Panel, Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
