I'm Joanne (Jody) F., the breeder behind Cedar Run Border terriers located in Rapidan, VA. We focus on preserving the integrity of the breed by focusing on good temperaments and breeding to the BTCOA standard. Our program has produced excellent family, farm, and performance dogs.
Q. & A. with Joanne (Jody)
Why did you start breeding?
I’ve had terriers my entire life and have been animal obsessed for as long as I can remember. I got my owns Jack Russell for Christmas when I was 10 years old from my stepmothers breeding program. He was the best thing that ever happened to me. I wanted other people to have the same positive experience as I did. I couldn’t wait until I could produce my first litter and bless other people with the pet of a lifetime. When I turned 20 and bought my first house that’s exactly what I did
What makes your program special?
When I started in Jack Russells they weren’t recognized by the AKC so when I got in to Borders and had my first AKC breed I went all out with titling my dogs and I really enjoy showing them in conformation because it lets me know that what I’m breeding is going in the right direction in someone else’s eyes other than my own. I don’t have many breeding dogs, usually just one litter a year but my dogs are all health tested and most importantly they are loved and are a part of our family. They’re raised around kids and other animals. Us living on a farm is a huge advantage in socializing these little guys.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Cedar Run Kennels was amazing to work with! I contacted her when her most recent litter was 5 days old told her a little bit about what I was looking for and quickly fell for our girl. She was super friendly and answered any questions we had along the way and was really understanding when we had to delay picking up our little lady due to last minute plans. Our Kelpie is SO well behaved and sweet too! We liked Cedar run because we have cats and horses so getting a puppy who was used to seeing both was a huge plus for us.
