Q. & A. with Taya & Mike

  • Why did you start breeding?

What began as simply owning and enjoying well-bred dogs quickly turned into a passion for preserving breed purpose, temperament, and health. We saw firsthand the difference an ethically bred dog makes; sound structure, stable minds, predictable traits, and dogs that truly fit the jobs and families they're meant for.
  • What makes your program special?

Clucking Homestead is different because every part of the program is built with intention and integrity. Our dogs are purpose-bred with careful attention to health testing, temperament, structure, and sound foundation lines. Ensuring each pairing is meant to improve and preserve the breed- not just produce puppies. Our puppies are raised hands-on, exposed to real life, and given a solid start both mentally and physically, with lifelong support provided to their families.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies include longhaired and smooth coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies include piebald, cream, black, chocolate, fawn (isabella), brindle, blue and cream, chocolate and tan, chocolate and cream, fawn (isabella) and cream, black and cream, and dapple. English Springer Spaniel puppies include tri-roan, liver white and roan, liver white and tan, liver and white, black white and tan, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

A little over a year ago my husband and I started looking for a companion for our English Cocker Spaniel. We wanted a caring breeder who made sure placement of their puppies was a good match. Finding a breeder with a solid, healthy bloodline and one that left their tails natural was a bit of a challenge. That is until we found Taya! She was a delight to work with. She spent time interviewing me over the phone and was upfront that she was chatting with a few other families before she made her final placement decision for the pup we wanted to join our family. Taya called the next day and said she was ours if we were still interested. My husband hopped a plane and brought home our newest family member. She is a healthy delight, full of puppy mischief and loves to play with our other 4 year old dog. Taya has checked on our pup multiple times since she joined us and I love sending her pictures as she grows up! I highly recommend Taya and Clucking Homestead Springers & Dachsunds!
