Q. & A. with Aude

  • Why did you start breeding?

English cockers are such perfect family members; loyal and affectionate with a big dose of goofiness and they are so beautiful. But somehow, the English cockers we were seeing in the United States weren't as gorgeous as what we would see in Canada and Europe so this is why we decided to get breeding rights on our lovely Lyra and from there we haven't look back!
  • What makes your program special?

We imported our foundation English cockers: Lyra came from Canada, out of champion European lines and Othello directly from France. They both are now retired but their daughter Osono just had her first litter and she has been a totally amazing mama!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and white, liver and tan, black and tan, black, golden, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Coco Kennel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for English Cocker Spaniels.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Adult Onset Neuropathy (AON), Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS), Familial Nephropathy, Cocker Spaniel Type, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
