Meet the breeder

I'm Robert W., the breeder behind Cogsworth Cromwell Dachshunds of NW Indiana located in Hobart, IN. We follow OFA and parent club health testing on our sires and dams. We want to share our love of the breed for years to come with you and your family. Our purpose is to better the breed for health and temperament. Ethical, passionate, purpose, continual education. Is why we do what we do. We have many google reviews from past present buyers. We thank you so much. We are also on AKC Marketplace. Not all transactions are exclusively on only good dog. We exclusively breed only AKC registrations not any other. On AKC marketplace a breeder must enter a dam and sires AKC registration number provide the date of their registration before a litter can be advertised on their platform. Ensures a buyer is working with legitimate AKC breeders. We absolutely love, adore our beloved dachshunds. While they sit at the sixth most popular dog breed as of 2023. They are our number one breed. We do provide pre-paid AKC litter registrations as always with every litter. We have our own policy’s and every puppy comes with registration with no delay pre-paid litter registrations those are done at time of sale and are immediately sent via electronic mail to your primary online mail account. All at time of full payment completion. Any name changes made after registration is completed are at your expense. Huge difference that sets our program apart from many other breeders. We are a smaller breeding program exclusively of the Dachshund breed. We set out to share our love and passion with you for the better of the brred to share with our beloved families past and present. Education and constant learning are essential for a quality breeding program. We’re a breeder of quality smooth and long coats, from black and tan, shaded reds, cream, chocolates, dapple, piebald, from mini to standard. My personal favorites are creams, dapples, black and tan. I love them all regardless. We are breeding for outstanding temperaments and health, With beautiful eyes coats heads keel. To look like the hounds they are bred to be. Dachshunds are well beloved family companions and are proud to be home to SW Michigan's, NW Indianas, AKC short and long coat Dachshund breeders. 2025 is a new year and things have changed some this new year and continue to foster change and growth. Good Dog now offers financing as an option as well for buyers 🎉 We now proudly use AKC dna and health for our sires and future dams. As well as AKC reunite microchipping which each litter is microchipped at their 6 weeks vet appointment. We are now, implementing that. “A completed application must be completed and included when you inquire for us to reply back to you”! Please read about us and our available litters, and each puppy’s information we provide a great deal of time to all and every litter is always different. We are beyond blessed to have the buyers we have had, and we thank you all 🐾!! We have selected each of our Dachshunds with your future puppy in mind. All we want is to provide your family with the best loving pet or show potential puppy they seek. We have wonderful lines with a champions in them. We adhere to the policy’s set by AKC and Dachshund Club of America. I am a AKC Ring Steward. I love all the shows and events. To meet the many AKC dachshund judges there different views and opinions are always wonderful information to gain. I strictly work closely with families when a family is identified for our puppy’s forever family. We build a repour. Communication is key! We take great pride in the AKC quality line. We pre register all litters with the AKC. We also post our litters on AKC Marketplace as well as here on Good Dog. Good Dog is the format for applications, deposits and credit debit card payments is an option you don’t have to subscribe to good dog as a buyer! The comfort that we’re verified, by 1. AKC market place 2. by Good Dog, it is the best buyer, breeder verification for a stress free transaction. We wouldn't be on here if they didn't. AKC has firm guidelines they require breeders to follow including Good Dog. Part of the factors we use on how pricing is determined. Please read the disclaimer as a potential buyer, we want you to know what AKC American Kennel Club and Dachshund Club of America would want buyers to know and ask, ask all breeders any questions. As much as we’re committed, we want our puppies to have the same lifelong homes. We love to answer questions, we’re upfront and honest! We are very devoted to producing, and having the best, healthiest, well socialized litters. We invest in a lot and a lot of time in our dedication. In doing so we carefully follow the proper responsible way to breed. We’re also adding more questions in our application. “We are a home-based breeder". "We're not a shelter nor kennel" or a puppy store. We do not allow pre visits it's our private home, but you and your family are welcome on puppy pick up day of course. But not before due to its our private home not a store, kennel, farm, the potential parasites and other diseases, from foot traffic on shoes that can be carried inside that. That could affect not just one puppy but the entire litter. Our puppies' immune systems are just that and until their third series they're not fully vaccinated. Parvo alone is at its highest in the first six months alone. It's for safety of all. Our puppies are given their health exam, first vaccinations and AKC Reunite microchipping at 6 weeks of age. Only by our licensed veterinarian. Puppies aren’t fully vaccinated until their third series. We take no risks. On puppy pick up you can also meet the parents as well if you'd like. We only diligently breed for the ut-best health with the best quality food for our sires, dams and our Dachshund puppies. To put the best into their forever homes. We want you and your family to have the best, well bred healthy Dachshund puppy. We are a AKC breeder of heart. Our sires and dams have been DNA and genetic tested full panel. Our sires have been, AKC DNA paw print to protect the genetic and pedigree blood line. Recording parentage to each litter. Sires are required after a third litter produced. Our dams are also. Dams aren’t yet required but we do anyways. Sires are AKC required. We take great pride in the breed, to always advance the breed. Each breeding is always carefully planned for the best quality litters. They are bred from wonderful temperament of their parents. Our litters are each quality vet health checked thoroughly, vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed if needed with their first vaccinations. They always receive top quality veterinary care. We strictly follow all the recommendations of AKC, the Dachshund Club of America. As well most importantly our quality veterinary recommendations always. Our Dachshund puppies are bred for the love of the breed to better the breed. We provide a folder with each of our Dachshund puppies, that’s well organized and labeled with all health records, AKC microchipping numbers and info. You will take care of registering your dachshund puppy’s AKC reunite microchipping that’s pre paid by us for you. pre paid registrations are now available and will be transferred via AKC upon purchase before they leave and when they leave so please have a name ready and changes are at your cost once registration is completed. We do not sell our dams or sires” when they retire, they are part of our family they are treasured beloved and treated as such. We breed here in our home. We all help deliver each puppy, we have cameras thru out our home. We can see them any time anywhere. We watch every day as they grow. There a part of our family and have early daily socialization with children and our family. Our Dachshunds are not just dogs. We highly socialize our puppies to all sorts of sounds in our home, well socialized with family, close friends and children since their birth. The moment, you contact us and reservation deposit made on your puppy. Were always here for you. After your puppy has their reservation deposit, we will send weekly photos/videos to you, along the way so you can watch them grow. We will always take the time to communicate, if a litter is or isn't available, we will happily place you on our waiting list. “*Communication*” is huge. We hope this info gives you a great idea about us and our breeding program. A high quality, healthy, well socialized puppies. Dachshunds aren't just lap dogs. They are used for many purposes according to AKC and Dachshund Club of America. I don't know an AKC/American Kennel Club breeder who would say there just lap dogs there very versatile. Not all puppies are destined for the ring we understand that. We have a dam from all champion AKC blood lines. Of numerous trophy’s and awards. Our Dachshunds are very beloved, versatile companions. We are very proud to be responsible Dachshund breeders. While all our puppies are registerable with AKC! We do now pre register each puppy and all registrations to their new owners on the day of pick up. When a current litter is available current litter pictures are posted, they are updated as they continue to grow. We do believe in strong close verbal contact with our buyers thru out the process. We also offer stud service, (inquire for info.) A waiting list is available with the normal deposit reservation. That secures a puppy for you from our future litters as well. Litters will show if we have any currently available. You can see our past litters as always. We are a small home based Dachshund exclusive home. We do not sell to any kennels, we DNA the parents and AKC paw print as AKC requires all studs, sires to be dna paw printed at 3rd litter we had our dams, mothers tested while that’s not a AKC requirement but we go above and beyond and we health guarantee all wellness checks vaccinations before they ever go to there new homes. Being a Breeder of H.E.A.R.T with AKC I can give my buyers many discounts thru AKC and all registrations state on them that each puppy was Bred with H.E.A.R.T on them Cogsworth Cromwell Dachshunds will now appear on all registrations🐾.

Q. & A. with Robert

  • Why did you start breeding?

We love the pedigree of a full blooded AKC registry. Our love for Dachshunds for nearly 30 years now. My first dachshund ever 30 years ago inspired me, to want to share this, amazing breed with everyone who wants one. Responsible is following AKC and Dachshund club of Americas breeder recommendations constant education. Online continual education of the standards and testing and so much more. It’s not just letting two breed and that’s it it’s far much more. There so beautiful and such amazing loving companions. They are AKC registered we do not allow CKC registrations! All of our dams and sires are registered, thru AKC American Kennel Club, so are our litters. You will get that, it is an honor, to be dedicated to preserve the bloodline of these incredible purebreds. It is an absolute joy of a journey, and we pride ourselves in helping all our buyers find the right one for their needs they fit any lifestyle. We hope all the information I provide answers most questions about our breeding program. If we haven't yet we will provide so much more.
  • What makes your program special?

We are a in-home AKC Dachshund puppy breeding program. We do not breed multiple different breeds, nor have numerous dams. We exclusively only breed AKC blood lines. With each puppy, comes with their AKC registration with our breeding name on the registration as well. We focus on the Dachshund breed not a kennel, a breeding farm nor allow third party sales many breeders do breeding's for different purposes. We put a great deal of time and planning into our litters. We begin with the healthiest bland , it is vital to select high-quality brands that offer well-rounded meals. The diet should be rich in protein for muscle growth, fatty acids like Omega-3 and Omega-6 for a healthy coat, and easily digestible carbohydrates for energy. Additionally, be sure to incorporate foods with calcium and phosphorus to support bone development, especially crucial in the miniature breeds that are predisposed to issues related to bone health. Best practices also encourage avoiding foods with artificial preservatives, colors, and flavor enhancers. Moreover, since Dachshunds are prone to obesity, which can increase the risk of spinal problems, it's important to monitor treat intake and maintain portion control. Recommended Feeding Schedule and Portions. Establishing a consistent feeding schedule helps regulate your dog's digestion and keeps their metabolism stable. Dachshund puppies typically need to eat three to four times a day due to their fast-growing nature. As they transition into adulthood, reducing feeding times to twice daily is advisable. We personally watch as the labor, birthing begins. We’ve always been hands on to assist in delivery of each puppy from every litter. To ensure assistance if needed and to make sure our dam is kept calm and as comfortable as possible. We have cameras inside and outside of our home to always be able to monitor. We always replenish our supplies after every litter. We always have on hand everything and have it ready for our litter about a week before our dams are due to deliver. For the mother and her babies, it's an intense exciting time as well. Giving each dam, sire and all puppies the best quality care of the Dachshund standard breed. We can monitor via video 24/7 in our puppy room. We have high expectations for our puppies that are placed in a home that is enriching, loving, forever home. Each puppy is AKC Reunite microchipped. The exclusive microchipping we use. We now fill out and pre register all registrations electronically before or at the day you pick your puppy up we print out a copy of the completed registration and place that in your puppy folder as well as their microchipping information and a copy of their first vaccination record with our veterinarian. All our sires and dams receive the best high quality veterinarian care for their exams and vaccinations. Each puppy is given an individual exam and the following are examined, eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, gums, bite, external genitalia, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, respiratory, skin and coat, 6 weeks first set of shots and microchipping is done. We do not vaccinate personally any of our sires' dams or our puppies, we do not personally microchip them ourselves. Our quality veterinarians do that we have an established relationship with. Our veterinarian can't just take a breeder's word they gave them their vaccinations, and our buyers veterinarian doesn't know if that's true either. Only with verified veterinarian contact by another veterinarian to verify status that they have been documented thru a licensed veterinarian. We also are required to AKC DNA our sires upon breeding dna swab is sent to AKC for dna registration records on sires. We have done that with our dam Millie just to do it. All sires must be done upon before their third litter they reproduce. To avoid registration delays. That’s been done. That takes 4-6 weeks for the sires record to be updated for issuance of registrations. AKC DNA is to record genetic material information for their offspring. The AKC registry of future offspring that each puppy does match the DNA. If not, registrations are voided. We go a step farther we did that with our dam Millie AKC doesn't require that, yet. We do it anyways. Once you complete an application on Good Dog and submit to us once we go thru applications, and we approve an application you will be notified right back on the puppy you are applying for or is available. We then submit the reservation deposit request $400 to hold that puppy. That is done paid thru Good Dog, click on the deposit notification you receive. The deposit is deducted from the purchase price. We can not just hold onto any puppy that may have the best forever home without a deposit or waiting for one. Deposits are due immediately. Good Dog accepts debit and major credit cards. We also gladly welcome the balance in cash at time of pick up. It’s a great convenient way of paying and totally secure. We feel it’s so important to verbally communicate the process once you get your reservation deposit request and has been made. We try to include as much information here to make our program as informative as possible. So we may say something twice here and over the phone. It’s such an exciting time. We’re always available to assist thru out the purchase and transition to settle into their new forever homes! We hope that as we have explained so much about us helps give you a potential buyer a clearer understanding as to how much we invest and the significant amount of time and costs involved that go into pricing as well as the guidelines we must follow for their registries, the American Kennel Club, Dachshund Club of America. We are a breeder of H.E.A.R.T thru AKC as responsible breeders, we stay up to date, with webinar classes with both AKC breeder courses and Good Dog. We can be verified thru AKC and Good Dog!
