Meet the breeder

I'm Grace K., the breeder behind Copper Meadow Retrievers located in Atwater, MN. Our dogs are bred for health and good temperaments. Our dogs are the perfect companion dogs while still having a drive to retrieve. Our puppies are well socialized before they are old enough to go home. And we build small profiles for each of them to give families a better overview of each puppy!

Q. & A. with Grace

  • Why did you start breeding?

We started breeding because we are starting to expand our family. I want to be a stay at home mom with our kiddo. My husbands family has been breeding dogs for almost ten years and I have worked with breeders and trainers in the past. This is a good way to share the knowledge I have acquired while staying home with our one year old.
  • What makes your program special?

Our breeding program is special because we put a lot of time into our puppies. They are all very loved when they go home. We do a lot of socializing with our puppies and exposing them to all kinds of things they will encounter in their day to day lives when they go to their new families.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), D Locus (Dilute) DNA test

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
