I'm Katrina A., the breeder behind Crystal Peak Australian Shepherds located in Reno, NV. We are a small hobby breeder team consisting of mom Sherry and daughter Katrina. We are focused on producing working dogs that are beautiful to look at, wonderful to live with, and are highly competitive in whatever dog sport we choose while maintaining great temperaments, and good health.
Q. & A. with Katrina
Why did you start breeding?
Our first Aussie entered our family in 1980 after witnessing one dog's amazing talent when herding our loose horses off of a busy highway and back into their resident pasture. Originally bought as horseback riding companions Rocket and Levi quickly wormed their way into the family hearts forever. Since that time we have seldom strayed from this intelligent, loyal breed. The breed has intertwined itself within our core family group to encompass 8-10 family members owning in excess of 20 Aussies. This does not include the many puppy buyers that have become longtime family friends. Agility was discovered by Katrina in the year 2000. It was not long before many other members joined in the fun. Today we have 7 members of the family actively training and competing with about 14 dogs. The sport is highly addicting and a lot of fun for both handlers and dogs alike.
What makes your program special?
The primary performance focus for us is in agility. We feel this wonderful sport showcases many of the traits that Australian Shepherds are known for. Physically agile, sharp intelligence, and a high desire to please and work for you as a team are all attributes that allow Aussies to excel in the agility venue.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
