Cupric Clumbers

Virginia R.

Breeder of Clumber Spaniels

Meet the breeder

I'm Virginia R., the breeder behind Cupric Clumbers located in Whitehall, MI. We are a small kennel, our focus is on producing sound healthy Clumber Spaniel's and continuing the hunting tradition for which they were bred. My love of sporting dogs began at an early age. My first mentor, my mother, began a show career with Lhasa Apsos after I went off to college. Whenever I was at home I would go to shows with her, and during those years I learned so much about dogs and dog shows. It was at one of these shows that I was introduced to the wonderful Clumber Spaniel through a good friend of my mother's. I fell in love with the breed and vowed that someday I would own them. At Cupric Clumber, we not only show in conformation but also work with our dogs in performance, which includes hunting and obedience.

Q. & A. with Virginia

  • Why did you start breeding?

I believed my foundation female was a good start to breeding what I saw in the Parent Clubs standard. I consulted a top breeder in our breed and confirmed that she was a good start. I wanted to make sure that what our standard stated was kept in today's show dogs. I saw many kennels that were trying to breed and show dogs that did not conform to what our standard states.
  • What makes your program special?

Every litter that I have is thought out and I consult my mentor to confirm what the girl needs to improve the pups to meet our club standard. I try to improve my kennel in every generation.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
