Meet the breeder

I'm Marieli F., the breeder behind Dachshundly Perfect located in Summerfield, FL. All of our dogs are pets first and a significant part of our family! We love them and provide for them as if they were our children. I am a full time dachshund mom and my husband loves animals as much as I do. We are constantly paying attention to them because they are so fragile in the very beginning. We do not mix long and short coats. All of our dachshunds have long beautiful healthy hair. Comfort, hygiene and warmth is necessary for mom and babies . My puppies are raised in a comfortable, spacious, clean and cozy baby pen. The first week which is the most critical I sleep next to them. The pen is not only where the puppies lay but where mom spends most of her time the first 3 weeks so it has to stay very clean in order to avoid any infections for her. The first week the pen has to be temperature regulated and puppies have to be supervised at all times. There are also cameras alerting me of every move they make. Our moms take their post natal vitamins in order to keep a good milk supply and they have a variety of tasty protein meals (liver is their favorite) to keep those babies growing strong. Our dogs have the space to exercise and can freely come and go in our home. We have a large fenced yard where the puppies will eventually also go to with the rest of the dogs. We have done extensive research of genetics and health testing so we aren’t just breeding two dogs without knowledge. We are responsible dog owners and we breed only the dogs that we know are healthy, have had their exams done and passed. Each of my puppies are handled daily. Early neurological stimulation is given starting day 3 until day 16 once a day. These set of exercises have proven to help dogs improve their heart rate, have stronger adrenal gland, tolerance to stress, resistance to disease and their perfomance in general. Great health, temperament and socialization are the top three qualities we strive to nurture. Our doxies are AKC registered and come in beautiful colors/patterns. We have both standard and minis and we only have a few litters a year. I am momma’s helper from the moment she starts labor and assist her all the way until puppies are ready to be on their own . I start potty training the puppies when they are 3 weeks old to help transitioning to your home but it takes consistency and patience to establish a good routine in order to have them fully potty trained. We socialize the puppies to the everyday noises and activities of a busy household. I know you are excited to see the progress of your new baby so you will get weekly photo updates and I post almost daily on my social media photos and videos of the babies ! To see what our puppy families have to say about us and why they love us go to our google page ;) PLEASE NOTE: We do not do in-person showings of our pups so not to risk their health as they are still young and vulnerable. We can do video chat though.

Q. & A. with Marieli

  • Why did you start breeding?

Before I started breeding I read a lot about it. I knew it wasn’t easy , I asked many questions to people that had years doing it . I had mentors and did my own research to be prepared. Once I learned there was so much more than having 2 dogs to breed I became very interested in genetics, color and how to produce them and of course all of interesting information DNA testing will tell you about them. Learning how to revive a puppy or what to do if they are too weak to eat , how to tube feed, have an incubator ready etc. These are just some simple examples I can think of but there is so much to it . I’m still learning and no matter how challenging can be at times it is rewarding to see that the puppy you raised is leaving with a family that will love them as much you do.
  • What makes your program special?

I am a local breeder and I emphasize the importance of DNA/health testing and the appropriate orthopedic testing when they reach the age to get it done to see if it’s a dog I can add to my program . It’s extremely important to know if the breeder you are choosing is taking the correct steps to produce the healthiest babies . Testing is not cheap but it is necessary and RESPONSIBLE because you could pass a serious condition to the puppies . You can look up what is the recommended testing for this particular breed at the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals . Any good and ethical breeder should have knowledge of this . For potential puppy buyers, CHIC certification is a good indicator the breeder responsibly factors good health into their selection criteria. I do my best to select the dam and sire carefully based on their personalities and temperament, the dogs need to complement each other. A future pet owner is looking for a happy, healthy dog that won't need to make frequent vet visits other than the usual yearly checkup, so we keep up with their shots and deworming . All of my dogs are my children and they get the best treatment, love and care they can get.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, piebald, cream, red, chocolate, chocolate and tan, black and cream, black and tan, chocolate and cream, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
